Kubota L39

Man i'm excited to see one of these tractors, hopefully our dealers will have one soon.

I have been asking this question to no avail for awhile now. Is the total length with the FEL and BH comparable to the L35. Also is the L39 a refined L35 with better hydraulics, stiffer frame, higher hp engine, but still basically the same frame? Or is it a total redesign in a new frame?

The reason I ask is because I need to know what size trailer I'm going to need to purchase to pull it around if I do opt to buy it.

Tim,

I would think the same trailer size required for a L35 would be OK. I think the weight of the machine is more important for trailering. A L39 with loader and backhoe attached weighs just under 7,000lbs. A 3/4 ton pickup is in order here.

You could ask a JD dealer what trailer size they recommend for a 110. The L39 doesn't weigh as much as a 110, so you should be safe with what they suggest....OR, just search in the JD discussion section for 110 and trailer. You could PM someone who owns a 110 too.

As far as the design goes. I think the frame was redesigned or partially redesigned based on the literature. The L39 has a new "brace-less frame" for the loader so it says. -Nobody owns one yet so it's hard to tell. It will be at least a month before all the details are available.

I have a schematic here of the machine. I'll have to figure out how long it is with a ruler. I've got some good measurement to work off of, so I should be able to get a accurate length. Overall length is not listed in the Kubota specifications as far as I can tell.

Thanks Jim for the info. You don't have to exert yourself on the specs for my sake. If it is comparable to the L35 I think I will be all right.

I have an F350 to pull it around but unfortunately it has the 5.4 triton instead of the deisel. The manufacturers specs say that I should be able to tow it so we will see.

Where did you get the schematic if you don't mind me asking?

Figure 10,000 lbs you'll have to drag around (trailer and TLB)....Diesel would be nice and an Allison transmission.

It's a photocopy of one of the few Kubota published pieces of L39 literature. A dealer I stopped in at in upstate New York offered it to me. I gladly accepted /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif He managed to get one from Kubota at the dealer show in Georgia.

The literature shows the new loader in action...That auto-leveling bucket is going to be nice. The control area for the hoe looks quite nice too.

I've got to stop this and get back to work! LOL

Tim,
I received your private message and have analyzed the specifications with my dealer and his product catalog which is not availbale to individuals. These are the results of comparing the L35 and the L39:

Weight of L39 is 976 lbs heavier
Length of the L39 is 9.6" longer
Width of the L39 is 4.1" wider.

The L39 is a bigger machine, however, most people who have seen the machine believe the machine looks like the same size as a L35. However, my dealer who has seen the machine, says that visually it may look like the size of the L35 because of the styling of the curved hood and loader arms.

If you continue to analyze the specs, the majority of the weight increase is in the backhoe. Which only makes sense since the backhoe has a significant larger capacity than the L35.

Also, we hear how improved the hydraulics are on the L39. This is only a play on words and there is no magic here. You would only expect increased hydraulics with a 4 hp increase of the machine. Again, there really is nothing magically going on with this machine to improve the hydraulics only horsepower.

I have debated this issue with myself for almost 2 months whether to purchase a new L35 or L39.

The extra weight of the machine was a major factor to buy the L35 since I use an F150 for towing and the fact that it is a new model. I am sure once I see the machine i will want one and will kick myself for my decision. In the final analysis, I settled for the size of the L35 and the fact that I would not be able to buy a new L35 again because inventories are almost depleted according to my dealer.

While GPM and PSI quantify the MAXIMUM capacity, maybe Kubota is talking about the subtle control features like simultaneous control of two movements or finessing something requiring a light touch.

Thanks littldiesel for the informative reply. I really appreciate having some acutal #'s to wrap my mind around.

How does your F150 pull the L35? I have the F350 with virtually the same engine as you do I bet. The 5.4 triton V8. I am worried that it is underpowered and will have difficulties dragging either tractor up and down hills.

Tim, I have no problem towing the L35 with my F150 as far as power goes. The truck has the Triton 5.4 V8 engine with the lower geared rear-end (3:73). I tow the L35 with a 10,000 lb 16' trailer.

I am very satisfied with the power, however, the only thing I get real nervous about is the weigth of the load behind me. Many times the loaded trailer is pushing the truck and I feel like I have no control of the load. Also, there are times when the trailer starts fish tailing on me and starts pushing the truck around. That's the reason I purhased the L35 because I need not want to tow any additional weight.

You will have no problem towing a L39 with an F350.
