Kubota L4200 3pt. hitch won\'t work???HELP PLEASE!!

I have a Kubota L4200 w/LA681 bucket is a 1994 with 76 hours on it and am original owner. Also have a small 5 foot grader box on the 3 pt.hitch.The 3pt. hitch just made a huge BANG and the grader box fell to the ground while I was loading firewood into the the bucket. Now the 3pt. will not work at all...No up,or down even after I removed the grader box.The bucket was always kind of twitchy, until now.Now that the 3pt. stopped working the bucket is as smooth as glass. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gifDoes anyone have any idea what could have possibly broken??Thanks for any and all help.I sure could use it..

Hello And Welcome to TBN…
Sorry it is not a welcome with out problems with your tractor. Check the selector between the 2 hoses that are just in front of the hydraulic filter, Right side center.
The slot should be vertical for loader and 3point, horizontal for only 3point, (loader removed) the attached picture shows my L4200. excuse the dirt... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I have to think you may have broke something inside if the lift arms are still attached on the outside of the 3point.

How many hours do you have on your L4200? Fill out your bio ASAP as it may become helpful in the future. KennyV.

A huge bang and no hydraulic fluid on the ground would mean you may have a internal failure like broken piston.
If you can you move your 3pt arms by hand with the engine running then you may be tearing into it.

Don't drive it! I did drive mine but got lucky. I posted some pictures here on 7/23/05 of what happened to my L3300. I don't know how to post a link. If my piston hadn't landed in just the right part of the gear box I think the repair bill might have necessitated parting out the tractor. I remember after I noticed the 3 point failure and restarted the tractor it stalled (like it was under a heavy load) That was the transmission/pto gears chewing up some of the displaced piston. The repair is pretty straight forward. Remember to readjust the pressure relief valve setting after the repair. It is the threaded rod on the "drivers side" under the seat.

I really appreciate the suggestions.I just do not have the time to tear it down right now to figure out the source.Had my local dealer pick it up.My bucket works,so obviousy not a major hyd pump failure.Oil crystal clear. No metal shavings in hyd oil. Will post back with some answers as soon as I hear something. Thanks again for the advise.Working 2 jobs/No time for anything except sleep right now.Kinda stinks that gotta work so much to pay someone to fix something that if I had time for could tear down and fix for alot less:( /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Re: Kubota L4200 3pt. hitch won\'t work???HELP PLEASE!!

sorry to hear about it let us know how it turns out,
I have noticed on mine if I mow through a ditch the mower will raise the liftarms up and when I drive out of the ditch
they will catch on something on the way down and then fall about an inch with a bang.

It’s been a while… How are things going with your L4200??? Have you found anything out about the problem, or what has caused this? Just very curious in Kansas, KennyV.

Re: Kubota L4200 3pt. hitch won\'t work???HELP PLEASE!!

Well had my dealer pick up this unit...I explained to him before pick-up what the problem was and to be very careful when moving it.When his driver was loading my tractor backwards up on the trailer he heard a loud grinding noise and thought it was just the 3 pt. rubbing on the tires /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif???So he just rev'ed her up and kept on a goin'and now there is a giant hole right in the center of the bottom of the rear end.GO FIGURE....I just let him know to work on this on at his convenience, because full shop labor rate is out of the question.
My best guess is that the hyd.cyl. that operates the 3pt hitch failed/broke and a large piece dropped inside the rear end,but will let you all know as soon as I find out more.

Re: Kubota L4200 3pt. hitch won\'t work???HELP PLEASE!!

Finally just got my L4200 back and feel really lucky to have such a great dealer in our area. The owner worked on it on his own time and saved me alot of money.
The problem was that the 3 point control lever/shaft/washers was corroded from lack of use and was not allowing the hyd. system to return to a neutral or non-pressurized state, and broke the hydraulic cyl from its mounting where it connects to the 3 pt. internally. Thanks "hans2" you were almost exact as to the problem. Then the pieces fell under the gears in the rear end and cracked a large area of the bottom of the rear end case. The sticking of the 3pt. lever and constant pressure were the reason my front end loader were so jumpy, and wasn't working properly. He had a professional welder come to his shop and weld up the cracked area,$300 in internal rear end parts replaced, flushed out the hyd. system/new filter, repaired a slow leaky tire, new battery, and replaced a bad positive battery cable I have been fighting for years, pick up/delivery,and a used plow blade for the rear, for a GRAND TOTAL of ====$950 cash...
Thank you all very much for your suggestions and advise with my problem.
If any of you let your tractor sit around and only use it 15 Hours a year then please encourage your kids or neighbors kids to get up on it while it's sitting and pull all the levers as much as they want to anytime they want. I have found that lack of use can be far worse than over use..
Happy Holidays to all.
