MY uncle is looking at buying one of these beauties brand new. Dealers are right next to each other (Union, Maine) and have decent reps. cost is about the same too. Kubota is 46 horse vs the JD 42 but other than that the lifting specs, weight, features are about dead even. He is leaning to the Deere due to USA and he likes the cast components vs welded.

Any one have any pointers?

Thanks.

Dave

I think (but not sure) that the 4105 is one of the 5 or six John Deere models that are made by Yanmar. That's not a bad thing, I'm just saying they are both made in Japan.

I would look at a Kubota MX5100 too. I don't think it is much more than the L4600 but is a little more tractor.

agreed look at stepping up to the mx5100 as its 6hp more an only $3000 or so more than the 4600.

If you go to Union Farm deal with the bigger guy. He has been there a long time and knows his stuff. Keep in mind hammond tractor is a Jd dealer and a kubota dealer. The Kubota store is in fairfield.

I have a L4600. A little over a year and almost 100 hours and I love it every time I get on it. Only wants are a horn and parking brake light/buzzer. I can't speak anything against the Deereifs just the Kubota dealer is 15 min away and any other brand over an hour.

At least the Kubota is assembled in the US. A lot of the cast parts on the Deere, at least on a 4320 that I have some seat time on, are stamped "China" for what it's worth. Loader brackets come to mind. I haven't found any stampings like this yet on my orange tractor.

I think you can't go wrong here on these models and brands. As mentioned I think the JD is made by Yanmar, at least the engine is. But Yanmar is a great company so no need to worry there. If you step up to the mx5100, they are highly regarded.

Have your Uncle get some Seat time as these two won't be set up the same. Also if he goes with the Bota, have the Dealer put something heavy on the 3 point and slowly raise it to see if it jerks around much on the one he's buying.
