Kubota L4740 Error Code 87

My tractor is showing Error Code 87. Everything seems to be working fine. Anyone know what this code is? Thanks.

Engine rpm sensor has a fault. Likely stall guard will not function.

If it just a sensor then it is not too difficult.

Could it be the tachometer cable became disconnected or broke? Does it even have have a tachometer cable? Where is the sensor located?

No tach cable. All electric. I will have to look at mine but I think the tach sensor is on the front of the injection pump. Check for loose connectors.

Yes that is were it is, but by the parts list it looks like it goes into the block.

Yes that is were it is, but by the parts list it looks like it goes into the block.

You are right. It goes in the block just ahead of the IP.

Sorry my computer does not like your word file so I can't tell.

It is just ahead of the IP screwed into the block/gear case.

I would check the connection first. I have the service manual for my l5740 I will check it to see what it says.

Well after looking again, you have a good ?? there. I do know if one comes without a o ring and the same part comes with a o ring the part# well not be the same. I would think the last 5 numbers would not be that far apart. Maybe there is 2, one for the tach and one for the stall guard. One of us well have to check our tractor, I'm checking, just for my own info.

Found the problem!!! The electrical connection came unplugged. I cleaned, plugged it back in and the code went away and the tach started working again!

Glad you found the problem and thanks for letting us know. One thing though, you never mentioned the tach was not working. You only mentioned the error code and said everything else was functioning. You had me a little confused about the problem. :thumbsup:

Sorry about that. I didn't notice the tach not working until I checked it this morning.
