I have low hour (178) Kubota L3410 that is locked in low range. It is not in the linkage as I disconnected the linkage and still cannot shift from low to high from under the tractor. I suppose I will have to take it to dealer for a big buck transmision take down??? any ideas/

I assume you mean it won't shift out of low into neutral, or anything else, but is stuck in Low. Also assume you are depressing the clutch and immobile when trying to shift. Also assume there are no sticks or other debris obstructing any of the parts which should be moving. Thus, am out of ideas.

When I have a tractor mystery/:confused: I call up my dealer and have always been able to talk to the shop foreman who has always given good advice and suggestions over the phone for free...might give that a try. Let us know what you discover.

Move it backwards and forwards a few feet. It is not unusual for a 4x4, tractor, truck, Jeep, Land Cruiser, whatever, to bind up.

Or, lift the front tires off the ground. Releases any tension on the front driveline.

1. Make sure front wheels are straight, not turning.
2. Be sure you are on gravel, dirt, grass, etc. surface that has some "give" to it, not on pavement.
3. Shift into 2wd.
4. Is it gear or HST? If gear, put it in neutral. If HST, make sure the go pedal is exactly at neutral.
5. You may also need to loosen up the shift linkage to the transmission and right at the shifter on the transmission case with something like penetrating oil, WD40, etc. Particularly if you seldom change from one range to another.

It may be binding inside the transmission, but more likely it's what the others have noted or something on the above list. Good luck.

If you have a loader , raise the front wheels off the ground. This will sometimes help.

Is it locked in low range or 4wd because I'm not sure what lifting the front wheels off the ground will accomplish if it is locked in low range, just curious.

You're probably right about the problem not being in the front drivetrain, but the OP wasn't very specific about what he had/had not done, other than fiddling with the shift linkage. So, it seemed to me that making sure there was no 4wd bind-up involved made sense.

I've not had any issues like this on my L series tractor, but something similar occurs with the rear/mid pto selector on the BX, which tends to stay in one position a lot, due to debris/grit accumulating where the selector shaft enters the tranny case. A shot of penetrating oil frees it right up.

Trying to be helpful to the OP, but he's not replied.

If an HST tractor, simply not having the direction/speed pedal dead square in "N" will place the trans in enough of a bind to prevent shiftig at all.

Been there, done that. I simply removed the "shock" for the HST direction/speed pedal and all is fixed.
