fair enough, all the more reason for K to have some lube access, above & below. for open stations, it could be a moisture issue by the steering column. we'll see how it plays out for the OP
also, am sure you're aware of the cable tension adj on the steering column for fine tuning F/R

I was able to remove the shields around the steering column and access enough for lubing. I lubed all the linkage points and the cable(couldn't get much in but sprayed and moved it). I think the reason for my problems has to do with the rubber boot being dry-rotted and torn.

You might want to buy yourself a motorcycle cable luber tool (on Amazon) to pressure lube cables with a aerosol can of motorcycle chain lube and the straw which fits into the cable lube too. I have one, had it for years an it works on all sizes of sheathed cables too.

Here you go.. Don't buy the single thumbscrew luber, buy the 2 screw one. Mine is a Motionpro and I've had it at least 20 years, works as good as the day I bought it. Fits all sizes of cables too. You insert the end of the cable with the wire part sticking outside the tool and turn the thumbscrews down until they cause the rubber insert to seal the wire and then close the other end on the cable and stick the aerosol can of chain lube or PB in the hole closest to the wire end and it injects lube or PB into the cable and you lube it until it comes out the other end. Easy Peasy and you only need one end of the cable free to use it. Works on everything from speedo cables to tach drives to any sheathed cable.
