I have been preparing the food plots with a 6.5' disc harrow that weighs about 900# for many years now. We do about 20 acres or so a year. Ground is in South Mississippi. The tractor is 2WD and the fields are flat.

What width lift disc could I get away with? I don't need anything offset. I just need something that cuts quicker. Running over the same spot 7 or 8 times over 2 weekends is just plain old.

Or should i go with a 6' KK tiller?

Depends on the angle, disc spacing, and the weight. Could be 6' or 12'. Most are adjustable for angle.

By lift disc do mean a hydraulic cylinder lift trailer type or 3pt type? If all your acres are within tractor driving distance, I'd go with a trailer type.

If it needs to get loaded up a trailer every weekend than the 3pt is easier to move around. They do OK if they are heavy enough and the top link is set right.

I have a 10' offset harrow that will make 125hp squat and groan, and I have a 8.5' three point type that can be handled by a 40hp. Two other 12' trailer type harrows that do OK with anything over 60hp.

I feel that the tiller is the best option! The disc's we sell to farmers run between 300 and four hundred lbs per foot of cut and on sod might have to go over two times or more depending on the new crop.
