Kubota M62/BT1400 Back Hoe Tooth Swap

A neighbor of mine showed me the fork shaped teeth on his Cat backhoe that he claims are better at breaking rock. He also said they should be available for the BT1400 backhoe on the Kubota M62 I have here. I'd like to remove a tooth off the bucket and take it down with me when I go looking for the new teeth, and I see they are pinned on. Are the pins tapered such they need to be pushed out in one particular direction?

There are special tools to make it easier to remove and install tooth pins. Particularly on inside teeth. I’ve never used the special tools. Used Punches, heavy hammers, vise grips, homemade tool and frustration to service the few teeth I have replaced.

There are several types of tooth attachments. Have never seen tapered pins but I’m no expert. Your machine is newer than mine.

I believe those are just standard top pin teeth. They have a spring pin that is just held in by tension, get a punch and drive it out, in some cases it won’t budge you may need to blow out the pin with a torch. I believe they may be HX23 series teeth but 100% about that.

Sounds like I should grab a punch and 4 pound maul and just give it a try. Trouble is the hoe needs to go back on the tractor if the pin's going to have somewhere to go. So until I get around tuit, I'll start feeding those pins some penetrating oil...
