Has anyone had an issue not being able to turn the lower speed knob behind the seat? I just purchased a used M7040 and the 3 pt. hitch speed lowering valve is stuck. I've sprayed it with penetrating oil and let it sit overnight, tapped it lightly with a brass hammer but no success. The previous owner had tried to force it enough that the pin that attaches the hand wheel to the valve had sheared. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd like to hear them. Thanks

Common issue on Kubota's. You need to take the needle valve and actuator rod out of the hydraulic block and free it on the bench (or replaced it). My sop rule of thumb is... Every time I get in the tractor seat. I reach down and give the knob a turn one way or the other whether I have anything on the 3PH or not.

Don't worry about making a mess when removing the needle valve. All it does is control the bypass of fluid from the raising cylinders to the gearbox sump.

If it's a cabin tractor, there will be an access plate next to the knob. If it's an open station, the needle valve is accessible through the side fender or below the seat.

Thanks! I'm glad to see that it's something I can deal with myself. And I'll heed your advice on giving the knob a turn on a regular basis.

Had this happen on the 7060 i bought recently. machine was 2 years old with 260 hrs and the 3pt lowering control was seized.
Just like mentioned above, you can take apart the valve, and free/ clean it up.
I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed but i managed to figure it out. One issue I had was the roll pins that hold the rod/handle together had rusted enough to become one. Those were drilled out and replaced with some small bolts from my RC airplane part collection.
I keep the entire rear of the tractor and all the linkages coated in fluid film/ oil of some variety. which means they are covered in dust now but after washing i reapply lube generously. must remember to undercoat before fall, road salt is a horrid thing.

I can稚 make heads or tails of what I need to remove to clean up so I壇 better start looking for a workshop manual but this info is invaluable. I know what needs to be done once I figure out what to do it to. Thanks. :)

mlucius - a word of caution. Your M7040 3-point "speed knob" is probably the same as I have on my M6040. It's only a quarter of a turn from full on to full off.

Rather a touchy situation to adjust and get it just right. Just the slightest turn can go from no movement to drop like a rock.

Thanks to all! I believe I'm in business now. Just one last question: Does the lowering speed adjusting valve unscrew from the hydraulic control block? On the schematic it looks like it does but I really can't tell when looking at the real thing.

Sure does. The top of the valve will be hex shaped, right hand threads, righty tighty left loosey.

Thats is no good. Both of mine are real adjustable as in many turns.
