Kubota m7040
Looking into getting a Rotary cutter for my 7040 and I'm interested to see how large of a cut others have been getting without flogging the tractor too much. Im running it through around 3to 5 foot deep grass on average.

Thanks

That's some tall grass! You might want to stay around the width of the machine. Is this thick green (wet) grass or more of a dry climate sparse & dry grass? Sound's like you need to make hay out of it.

Your tractor will handle a 10 and 12 foot cutter with ease. I would look at Bush Hog, Woods, and Land Pride for parts support. Look at a semi mount for the heavier units. You can handle a 3 point unit if you have adequate front weight as a ballast. I've run a 10 foot Howse and it was a good unit.

Im in Australia so not sure we have those brands but 10 ft sounds good. I borrowed the neighbours 6ft and it cruised around in mid range 4th no problems except for the dense stuff then it was 3rd.

I've pulled a 15' bat wing with a similar JD with no problems, just not through 3'-5' tall grass.
A friend just bought a giant single spindle woods, the "heaviest" model they build and run's it on his 7040 without power issues although he said it's a little too heavy.

I use a 8 foot 3696 by land pride on my M7040. I would have to slow down in my thickest weeds. They were as tall as my head sitting on the tractor. But for average mowing I would say that a ten foot would be the best for that size grass. I thought the 'roos nibbled it all down to the nub?

Haha the roos don't get a chance around here :) Grows like wildfire.

six foot will be all it wants in 3 to 5 foot tall grass

agree w the others that your machine could handle a large batwing for normal growth. but given the height of your pasture, i'd stick with a compromise of 8' 3 point hitch twin spindle type that would cover your tractor's width. i like having the lift option for obvious reasons.
@ 2000 lbs, my 8' rhino is a perfect match for my m8540

Bush Hog 3008 works nice behind a M7040, haven't tried the 15 foot batwing that the guy had.
