Kubota manual spec for oil vs what Kubota dealer stocks

The manual for my L3410 lists 10W-40 as the recommended oil. However, the local Kubota dealer only stocks Kubota 15W-40. They advise that is all they ever stock and recommend that. Comments? I bought the 15W-40 and will be putting that in today. Thanks for any input. Just curious.

If you're in California I would think that the 15w40 is good. The first number is for the flow on a cold engine and I don't think that it gets very cold where you are?? So a 10W or 5W or a 0W should flow easier then a 15W on a cold start. You should be good...although I'm not sure what the coldest temps could be where you live. Dutchy

That's all I ever use. Kubota 15W40.

Thanks Dutchy. Good to know. The tractor service guy was just here - checking on a few things that needed attention, and he said he uses 15w40 in the tractors he services.

I am in the central California foothills and it does get cold at times, but not often and only a few times a year. e.g., sometimes might get below 32 overnight in the Winter and rarely lower than 25 in early mornings, and I am not using the tractor at those times.

Nice climate!! A good 15W oil would still flow fine at 0F or even colder on a cold start. If it still bothers your conscience, ask for their synthetic next time around, and then you'd be covered for the extreme heat or the cold mornings. Dutchy
