Kubota MX5000 Special Utility
Hello all!

First post.

I have a Question on the MX5000 4wd. I have a leak of hydraulic fluid from around the gear shift lever. I was on a medium incline and the fluid popped off the boot and shot out like a geyser! I removed the shifter to inspect the seal. The shifter came out with a pop as if the transmission was under pressure.

My question is:

Is there a vent for the transmission and if so where is it? Or is the transmission not vented?

Thanks!
Randy.

Update. I topped off the hydraulic fluid and was using the tractor. I removed the hydraulic fill cap when I noticed the gear shift boot starting to bulge. A huge burst of air came out of the transmission when the fill cap finally was removed. If you ever removed a bung from a metal barrel on a hot day you'll know exactly what I experienced. Any ideas?

I will say welcome and hope you get the help you need. I am not familiar with your tractor but it does sound like you have a vent clogged somewhere. On a lot of tractors the vent looks like a rubber question mark. Dirt daubers usually is the cause.

Hopefully someone else will chime in and give better direction as to it's location soon.

My B26 had a similar problem even with a vent. All my Kubota models had a rear rubber crook neck vent above the rear axle behind the seat. Hydraulic fluid would come out the vent, dipstick and fill plug. Problem was a cracked rubber elbow on the pump inlet. Allowing air to be sucked in when hot entraining air into the hydraulic fluid. Kubota latter redesigned the inlet line to take strain off that elbow.

Check your hydraulic filter(s) to be tight and not damaged. No double gaskets from recent change? Check external lines paying extra attention to rubber hoses on the suction side. In my case above the cracked rubber elbow wouldn’t drip fluid. Couldn’t see the cracks until the elbow was removed.

Correct fluid?

Sounds like you’re getting more pressure than just normal thermo expansion. Might consult your shop manual or dealer service person.

My friend has a L39 and we and the dealer have yet to find where the vent is!?!? He actually improvised a vent thru the threaded fill cap.
