Then they must sit unused most of the time.... I've 'found the smoke' in no less than 3 DeWalt drills, 2 regular and one hammer and I'm about to find the smoke in my 4th, it's getting pretty raggy. What fries me is the cost of replacement batteries. almost a hundred bucks for the XR packs and they die a slow death as well. I run them hard, it's a drill motor not a crystal glass.

Or maybe you don't know how you use tools properly. . Take a look at the reviews on Amazon or any other place...most others seem to have pretty happy results with them.

Never said Dewalt was the best...I didn't even imply it. I merely said B&D labeled tools are lighter duty compared to Dewalt. For me, Dewalt is good enough...(and I've never had a DeWalt tool fail or break, ever). In any case, if you want to debate tools, perhaps you should start a thread entitled "Why my Milwaukee tools are better than yours", :laughing:.

I look at it this way. For the asking price of HF cordless (I like the Bauer stuff), I can buy almost 3 tools to the price of ONE Dewalt or Milwaukee so, it's economically more prudent for me to get the HF tools and the battery packs for Milwaukee and DeWalt are absurdly priced as well. I only run extended run time packs.

I watched the Canuck guy and his vulgar dissertation and tests. No one of sane minded owner couples 2 cordless tools together with full packs and then puts the motors in stall (pulling maximum amps) to see which one smokes first. Unless you are an idiot (and you may be because I don't know you from mud), you'd never intentionally stall a tool and keep pouring the juice to it to see if it smoked. Got news for ya, they all smoke at some point in stall. If that is your idea of proper use, have at it because it's not mine.

Locked rotor is locked rotor no matter what kind of electric motor it is and in locked rotor, the motor has no means of removing heat from the windings so they all smoke, some sooner, some later depending on the gauge of the windings and the input amperage. The only exception to that would be a synchronous fractional horsepower shaded pole motor where the armature has no windings and is excited via induction.

Well, I agree with this is the case for many people...I even said that given the pace of battery technology improvements, buying cheaper cordless tools might make sense.

I've never smoked any...I switch to another tool far before I ruin a motor. Maybe you should try that so you don't have so many failures. Any tool can have its load limits exceeded...no matter how good they are.

Which is why you don't appreciate my advice.
