Tractor
Kubota B8200, then a Kubota L3130 HST, now a Kubota L3400 HST
I just bought a nice used Kubota B8200 (470 hours), with four wheel drive and turf tires, a loader and a rear blade. Having used the tractor pretty hard to clear the blizzard that dumped 29" of snow here, I have come to the opinion that I want to add power steering, and would like to hear from anyone with experience in adding it to this type of tractor- what to expect, costs, etc.
This is my first Kubota, and I am really pleased with it so far!
Other than changing all the filters and fluids, it seems perfect.

Varmint,

Give your local Kubota dealer a call and see if it can be added. There is a couple of companies out there that do make aftermarket kits. Whether they make one for your model I don't know. One company that I can think of is jackson power steering. I just tried their link but it does not work. I have emailed them before so you could just try sales@jacksonpowersteering.com and see if you get a response.

Murph: I have checked with local dealers- Kubota used to have a kit available, but no longer. I also just followed up on Jackson Power Steering (Explorer found them- no problem) but they only offer kits for Ford Tractors- about $1200 with shipping. Thanks anyway.

Varmint-

See you found the answer to what I was going to suggest. I had an 8200 several years ago, (like 1987) that I added PS to. At that time the cost was about $850 for the kit if you added it yourself. Not hard to add, but had a lot of plumbng to do.

It wasn't true hydrostatic PS and was only good if the engine was running over half throttle, but it sure saved the arms and shoulders.

You might contact some large Kubota dealers, maybe you'd get lucky and a NOS kit might be laying around.

Andersn: Thanks- I did indeed find a dealer unit, asking price 800, and I am going to try to get it for my "bota- which is also an '87, it turns out. Those turf tires, combined with a bucket full of wet snow, and another 29" of snow under the front tires, really give you a workout.

Great! Sounds like you found a good deal. If you use your FEL on a regular basis, you'll never regret adding the PS. Mine had ag tires, but I built a set of front wheels that would allow me use trencher tires, less wear and tear on the turf and a whole bunch more traction! Sure stressed the biceps 'til I added the PS.

Hope you enjoy your 8200, they are great little machines! Is yours HST or gear?

I tried to attach a picture of the 8200 with the L3010 I traded it for.

Andersn: Its a geardrive - pretty much all original- used but in the kind of shape you'd hope to find if looking for a "broken-in" tractor. I've got a 5' scraper blade on the back, and a Bush Hog 4' loader bucket, which is about equal to the Kobuta bucket, except not quite as nicely made. Having used my neighbors big JD with its serious loader bucket, I wish I had it, but you have to draw the line at some point. How long did installation take you, and do you think the loader gear will be in the way?

If I remember correctly, it only took me a few hours one night to install it. The biggest problem I had was removing the steering sector, and that wasn't really that bad as my tractor was nearly new. Not sure how yours will be, but its just pressed on like a tie rod end, a little penetrating oil and a few well placed licks with a hammer and it'll pop right out!

Mine had a Schwartz loader and had no interference with the steering kit.

Good luck and have fun! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I have a Kabota B8200 and looking to convert it to power steering but unable to find a kit or steering box. I was hoping since you have the make same model tractor you might know where to find one. Your help is greatly appreciated.
