I am new to this-never owned a tractor before. Have 28 acres, gentle hillside, some clay, wet part of Maui (Haiku). In the past, have hired local who uses a 25 year old Massey Ferguson 52 hp two wheel drive to plow, mow, till, etc. The cost to hire him and meet his schedule makes owning attractive. Pricing led me to the Kubota MX5000 DT, the 4WD. Good idea?

And, there are choices to make: front bucket 702 vs 852?

Does the quick attach bucket perform for changing from bucket to forks?

Any one with a front end grapple? What brand fits?

What about the quality of the Kubota rotary mower SQ 720?

Any help you can give will be appreciated. Tired of salesmen. Not wedded to Kubota, just to price, quality, and ultimately, value.

Well your in the kubota forum. Your first post has some great questions in it.

First, welcome.

Second, if your not wedded to the orange color, then I would suggest posting in the buying forum. List your needs, wants and desires. Give a good description of tasks you need to do, now and want to do later.

Other brand owners can really open up your thinking and thought process and you will gain a keen insight into many details of tractor ownership and operations you may not get in this specific forum.

But getting back to your Kubota questions, it seems you have done some value comparisons that are pointing you to a particular size. 4WD for me, is a must. Tons of info in here on grapples, and IMHO anything branded Kubota has served me well.

First, Luther, welcome to Tractorbynet.

Second, I moved this thread of the Kubota Buying forum, as recommended by Mike.

Third, I have a personal preference for hydrostatic transmissions, but I think the MX5000 DT is a fine machine that will do the jobs you mentioned just fine.

And last, for some things I'm certainly not sure about:

1. Usually the bigger number gets you the bigger, better front end loader or bucket. If I understand Kubota's website correctly, you may need the 852-1 to be able to use the quick attach bale spear and the 42" forks, but can use the 36" forks with the 702.

2. I don't think there is such a thing as a Kubota SQ 720 rotary mower. That's a model number used by Bush Hog brand and your Kubota dealer probably sells some Bush Hog implements. In fact, I bought a Bush Hog rotary cutter from my Kubota dealer in 1995. And, in my opinion, the MX5000 should handle it just fine. Bush Hog products are good quality. Of course, the Squealer (SQ) line is their lightest duty ones, but still pretty tough.

Good luck with your shopping.
