I just put some money down to reserve a B7500hst with Kubota Brand rear blade and 3pt finish mower. Are these Kubota brand implements any good, or should I purchase these from another manufacturer(woods, landpride ect..) I have 5 acres to mow, most of this mowing is in an old hayfield just weeds and light brush, some landscaping, and will be using the back blade to clear a 165' drive, plus maybe my road, depending if the county clears it in a timely manner.

Scottie,

I don't know how well-made the Kubota 3-pt mower or rear blade are, but I've always gotten the impression around here that Kubota attachments don't represent a great value. There are plenty of people on TBN who have 3-pt finish mowers by Bush Hog, LandPride, Woods, King Kutter, etc., but I can't recall anyone who has mentioned owning the Kubota brand. (There are plenty of Kubota mid-mounts out there too, BTW). I seem to remember someone saying that the Kubota blade is pretty light-duty also.

Maybe you should ask your dealer about the price differences for comparable Woods attachments, and hopefully he'll steer you in the right direction. I'd also double-check with him about mowing your old hayfield - 'light brush' sounds like a job for a rotary cutter.

Good luck.

Scottie,

My dealer sells all sorts of brands plus Kubota and NH tractors. He seems to pick and choose depending on the best combination of value and quality.

As for the FEL, he recommended going with the Kubota loader. Works well, is well matched to the capability of the tractor.

As for the boxblade, he highly recommended the Woods. None better, or at a better value.

He also thought the Woods backhoes were among the best.

He carried both Woods and Gearmore mowers of various sorts, as well as post hole diggers.

I talked to my dealer he says he has BEFCO finish mowers in stock, anyone have a BEFCO and are you happy with it?

Scott,If you are looking at a 4'-5' Kubota 3-point Finish Mower,I would look a little further.Seems like they have a single gauge wheel in the rear center and a couple of scalp rollers on each corner.I would prefer to have a mower that has rotating gauge wheels on all four corners.I think Befco makes a good rear mount, along several others.A friend of mine just got a Rhino 48" rear mount for his B1750,and he loves it.It's a rear discharge, something you might want to take into consideration, have heard nothing but good things about that style mower.

Scottie,

I dont think many people buy Kubota 3ph mowers or back blades. I think the perception is that they are overpriced and are not of the quality of the third parties who specialize in these implements.

I have seen the Befco and I think it is a very good mower and a very good price value. I also like four rotating gauge wheels, so you can maneuver it easy both on an off the tractor.

Also look for floating lower and upper links on the mower. These are U-shaped connections on the mower at the three points where it attaches to the three point hitch. This allows the mower to "float" independently of the tractor when you are going up and down hills.

Look for a quick pin attachment (rather than bolts) on the top of the gauge wheels to allow quick height adjustments.

I also would recommend the rear discharge, as it allows you fit in narrower spaces, mow close on both sides of the mower, and doesnt have as much of a tendencey to "windrow" discharged grass as a side discharge mower.

I believe there is a Befco mower that has all these features. Landpride is another, but it is usually more expensive than Befco, at least here in CT.

Glennmac, I agree with all your recommendations. I'm not familiar with the Befco, but sounds like you were describing my Bush Hog RDTH60./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Bird,

In conjunction with looking at larger tractors, I have been looking at 3ph mowers. I had found that Landpride, Befco and, indeed, Bush Hog had all these features. The Woods, which I otherwise like, has the bolts on top of the gauge wheels.

Re: BEFCO Finish mower

I have the Befco C50 RD6H (rear discharge, 6', hard caster tires, with the mulching option) It is an excellent product and much less expensive than the equivalent landpride model. Have had it for two seasons and use it to mow 2 1/2 acres weekly.

I have a Farm King 60" rear dishcarge which has the features you mention. My dealer said that the Bush Hog was the "cadillac" but for a few hundred less it is tough to beat the value of the Farm King.
