Kubota ROPS rattle cure

As long as I've had the 3400, the folding ROPS has been a source of irritation. It always rattles and squeaks going over rough ground, enough that you want to wear ear plugs.

I made a set of hardwood wedges to fit between the hinge bracket and the front edge of the ROPS. If it does move, the wedges drop further in and get tighter.

Rattle is gone, smile is back..

Do you ever fold your ROPS?
If so, is it a hassle to get those wedges out?

A more simple fix would to be put two bolts in the nuts on the front side of the roll bar and jam them tight that is why those nut are there good luck.

A M10x1.25 bolt fits nicely in case anybody is wondering.:thumbsup:

You give them a wiggle, then they slide back out. At worst a light tap.

I have to put the ROPS down every time I put the tractor in the garage, which is pretty much every day. I wasn't planning on keeping the tractor in there originally, or I might have considered a door 6 inches taller.

I tried that, the problem is if you have them tight enough to keep the ROPS from rattling you can't easily install or remove the cross bolts. In fact, I removed the two bolts I had there yesterday.. I fold the ROPS every time I use the tractor, it won't fit in the garage otherwise.

For once I can say "been there, done that..."

Thanks Cyril, it doesn't pay to look too closely though. I evicted a million ants (and anthills) and probably a thousand mice mowing that field. I'm going to have to have a "come-to-Jesus" talk with the cat soon.

The anthills are/were impressive, some almost 2 feet high and that big across.

Indeed I was wondering. Knew what the nuts were for, but didn 't want to do trial and error purchase of bolts. Just bought them from HD and installed. Thanks for the size.

Sometimes these good ideas come "after the fact"... we had a dead deer too close to the house and over the Memorial day weekend, were having company. I cranked up the 'Bota, scooped up the carcass and hauled it off... later, before the party it dawned on me that I'd have been much better off using the 'Bota to cover the carcass with a little dirt.... Duh!
