kubota rtv 500
Hi everyone. My name is Donovan. I just bought a kubota rtv500 used from a private owner. It has 242 hrs and I was very dissapointed when I drove it up the hill in my yard. It wouldn't go....it has no power! What could it be? Any suggestions would be appreciated, than you.

Parking brake OFF?

HST in 'H' not 'L' position? (LOW is really LOW on an RTV500)

I suspect old or contaminated fuel may be your problem. I would dispose of existing fuel, remove and clean fuel tank thoroughly and replace fuel filter. If you have bad luck, fuel pump may also need replacement. (People top RTV500 fuel tanks with diesel quite often, without realizing their error.)

If you will expand on your lack of power symptoms through the EDIT function, we can be of more help. My above suggestion is more-or-less a shot in the dark, but based on experience.

Did you receive an Owner's Manual with the vehicle? Have you read the Owner's Manual?

The guy that i bought it off of was using unlead....i filled it w/fresh premium when i got it home. I was trying to drive up a hill in the yard that my 225cc yamaha trike tows 800lbs of wood up frequently...the kubota was in high, no cargo and would not go, we had to shut it off to get out of gear, restarted it and drove up it in low but it barely made it. I was thinking maybe a tune up, a fresh feul filter would be good too, thank you. It's acting like my car did when the knock sensor went bad. Could it be timing? If so, is there a way to advance it? I'm new to kubota, I appreciate any info. Should I check compression? I do have a gauge. What should it be?

The RTV500 has EFI, electronic fuel injection.

With less than 300 hours, if genuine, I cannot believe you will find a compression problem; but you can check.

You should be able to find correct pressure through a Google search.

Parking brake OFF?

If the engine revved OK as you were going uphill, but you still lacked power, one or more brakes may be stuck.

Spark plugs are just $3.00 X 2 = $6.00.

Your description of the problem remains weak from a troubleshooting viewpoint.
