Kubota RTV 900 front axle fluid question?

I did my 400 hour service (front axle) on my 2006 Kubota RTV 900 and the fluid that came out almost looked silver colored thick gear fluid,it looked nasty.The manual calls for Kubota super UDT fluid to refill.Has anyone did this service?Did your orginal axle fluid look thick and silver colored?Thanks,coobie.

Didn't to my RTV yet, but changed the fluid in my BX...There was some silver in it but not to the degree you're describing..It was somewhat cruddy, but it was in there for 8 years until the hours met the change.

Not real concerned at this point with the front axle just thought why is the orginal fluid somewhat thicker than the replacement super UDT fluid?coobie

Maybe the dealer put thin gear oil in instead of UDT.

Possiable but I guess I really don,t know if they are factory filled or dealer filled.I guess a call to the dealer might clear it up.coobie

Is the silver color from worn off flecks of metal? That is the only thing I could think of that would color the oil silver. I was advised on my tractor not to put the recommended hydraulic oil in the front differential but to use a 80W gear oil instead because it provides better extreme pressure lubrication than the thinner oil.

It does not look like metal flakes.It looks more thicker like gear oil like you mentioned.I guess I better check with my dealer today.EDIT: Just called my Kubota dealer he stated the RTV,s come from the factory with super UDT in the axle.The oil I took out sure looked like 80-90 weight gear oil to me though.coobie

Sometimes moisture in the fluid will give it that appearance. It is usually from condensation that built up over time in the housing and contaminated the fluid ( one of the reasons they recommend changing the fluids based on time as well as hours of operation).

The Kubota shop manual requires the front axle fluid changed at 400 hours,nothing stated about time.I changed it at 392 hours.coobie

Sorry, I should have consulted the manual. I had it in my head that it was an annual or 400hr required fluid change.
