I have a RTV 900 sxs that needs the radiator repaired, I have a leak around one of the upper radiator supports, it actually is broken all the way around, I have it out and was thinking about going to Harbor Freight and getting one of their plastic welders, anybody ever used one of these, anybody know what type plastic is used on these radiators, do you think this will work, much cheaper than buying a radiator, any advice appreciated.

Never used a plastic welder...kinda doubt that would work, if it failed the first time, likely to do so again using same materials.

Don't know why it failed....is there some sort of bind it seems to be in??

I've had really good luck with WATERWELD ..... used it to fix holes in gasoline tanks, boat bottoms, etc.... dunno if it withstands heat, but recommend reading the labels on it and similar products by same company. They have several that seem to be tuned to specific applications although all are a putty kind of material that you cut and roll together. It heats up and you apply it, use a reasonably generous amount. It dries extremely hard.

That's my best idea. Hope you find a fix. I assume that it's out of warranty.

I do own a plastic welder and it is a great tool for fixing a hood or grille on a tractor when the plastic gets broken. Was able to make what I call cosmetic repairs as many broke after a period of time not saying they didn't last a year or so. I wouldn't use it on the radiator as I haven't seen that much life out of the welds when they are only used structurely to hold small broken parts much less to hold water!

Welder might work but i had t replace the rad in my 900 and it was pretty resonable,140 dollars i think.

Now I'm worried about my RTV 1140 radiator....I would have thought that the radiator is well protected, supported and subject only to simple stresses well within design limits.

Do either of you wish to speculate why the failure?? High hours? Low coolant leading to over heating leading to failure??

I did notice once my radiator overheating, checked it and discovered it was clogged with dust, washed it out with hose, problem solved....hmmmmm better go do that again NOW!!

Mine came from a rock. If you look at the bottom of the radiator it has two **** that sit in rubber grommets in the body but the tit hangs down about a quarter of an inch below the body. I went over a mound of dirt and the rtv bottomed out on a rock and pulled the tit and a plug out of the radiator. I thought it was a freak accident but the exact same thing happened on my M 4700 believe it or not. A stick came up and caught the same tit and broke that one the same way. I now have taken a dremil tool and ground that extra quarter inch or so off so I wont be hit by lightning 3 times.LOL . By the way the radiator for the M4770 was $600 dollars.

GOOD info, thanks a bunch ..... I'll go looking for the offensive dangling tit and take action to make it less attractive to those offensive bottom attacking rocks and sticks. I know they are out there!

I did check the radiator for debris and it needed a good cleaning and hosing down again.
