Kubota RTV500 Air pre filter

The inlet pipe to the RTV500 air filter canister appears to have a foam filter stuck into the top. I found this while evicting a used bird nest. I can't find this filter listed anywhere and can't get it out with out disassembling the intake pipe and hose.
Any ideas on how I should proceed? What is the filter replacement? Anyone know about a 2016 steering shaft recall?

The foam filter keeps the birds out, dogs,cats whatever, grab the filter and pull it out, it's only held in by friction, wash it out let it dry and push it back in, I've had my 500 for 8 years, pull it out once a year and wash it. The steering shaft recall was only on certain serial number machines, mine wasn't included, the dealer said the shaft could snap off at the steering wheel (heaven forbid) because the shaft was too thin at the wheel. I'd call the dealer with your serial number an get an answer.

Thanks for your reply. I took off the hose and fished out the remains of the filter material. It was almost completely disintegrated. Probably from heat. Half was in the pipe and the rest had made its way to the paper filter.
Now the question. What was it? I'll probably have to make the drive to the Kubota dealer.

You probably will have to go to the dealer, I can't find it online. It's like the filter on a wet dry vac the black foam wrap for picking up water, just my 2 cents.
