Hi all

I have the oppurtunity to purchase a Kubota RTV 900. It is a 2009, diesel, has the hydraulic dump, new tires, roof and front windshield, engine heater for cold starts, 800 hours and appears to have seen normal use. Looks to have been well maintained and not abused. He will deliver it for $7500. Does this sound like a decent deal to those familiar with these machines?

There are two types of buyers of machinery/powered equipment....new or used. I mostly (98% of the time) buy new unless someone offers near new for half of new price with documented history of use and service or used that could be sold for more at scrap metal prices.
Before buying I look at what new costs with all new seals, metal and warranty and costs to purchase with interest or rebate offerings which many times beats the used price or comes so close it isn't a real decision. There are some that believe used is always better than new since they think they are saving lots of money because they don't check what new costs are at the bottom line monthly payment or believe cash is always better than financing which isn't always true.
So, are you a cash buyer or monthly payments? If monthly payments go to your Kubota dealer or contact Barlows or other local dealers and determine the actual delivered to your door price for what you want. If cash, then you still need to know new price and then see what your saving for a 7 year used machine with 800 hours and no warranty vs new and then determine what a hundred or thousand dollars means to you today vs the costs to maintain a used vs new over the next 10 years. Just like buying a new vs used car/truck.
The answer of a fair price will differ from those of us that go toward new vs those that go toward used.

You have to figure the machine is at 50% of its life before it will start to give you issues. Our 2005 RTV has 1600 hrs, been reliable, but this past year ate about $400 in parts, weld repairs, etc.. U-joints are due to start going, etc.
The 50% left is the Over the hill 50%. It does not have that new car smell.,
So make an offer. $6000 is a very good price. (IMHO)
$7500, think about it.
PS. I was against buying the RTV. I was wrong.
