Editorial. New HST fan protector.

I don't wish to rant about Kubota or get into a whole negative thing about them, but this issue needs to be addressed the way they did the seat complaint recently. Kubota handled that reasonably well. They shipped a ton of those seats out to dealers who then could make things right with people for little cost. Bravo.

Now, imho, Kubota ought to do the same with this BX HST protector upgrade. The fan is vulnerable and this improvement needs to be made available broadly and widely and quickly. Surely, they have monitored this forum and have seen the feedback from dozens and dozens of their owners.

Come on, Kubota. Just do the right thing here. This would build tremendous good will.

BTW, my tractor has the new protector, so this isn't about me.

Its $30! Whats the fuss? Its also somthing thats useful to a minority of BX owners. The last thing we as dealers want to see is issues being made out of nothing.

One mans opinion. Have owned 4 BX's. All with MMM that have never been taken off except for hourly servicing of tractors. I believe I'm in the majority of owners of BX's. This $30 plate that I have no need of would have already cost me $120. Someone has to pay that, if it's Kubota then that means me. It's not like the seats. Ever owner uses the seats. Those that know they are going to do something beyond the average user should do whatever to protect their equipment from their job. I don't want to pay a cent, well maybe 5 cents for those users exceptional needs. If Kubota covered every possible use of a tractor we would all have to pay more as we do now for safety switches even though they cover all but all don't want them. I've read some of these horror stories of HST fan damage and if I had my BX out in the woods with the MMM off and damaged mine I'd moan but for someone to moan that does this after reading about it on this forum should only blame themselves. If you have a BX and run it over sticks or rocks without the MMM, get the plate. Also, Kubota has done something about it, they've started adding it for the few but we all will have to pay for it.

OK, so what is the "fuss" about them being made available for anyone who wants/needs them?

The given price may be $30, but don't even try to tell people that peice of metal would cost Kubota that much; should be either free or a minimal cost option.

This isn't going to effect me either as I have ordered the protectors from Bro Tek.

I'd say $30 is a pretty minimal cost option?

So now that they've provided their version of a protector plate, which only protects it from the bottom, if a stick were to come in from the front (as you would normally be driving forward), would they cover the cost of the repair of the fan?

This isn't about the $30, it is about the difficulty the folks have been reporting on the availability of the shield protector.

Messick, do you have them available? If so, problem solved. We can refer people to you to get theirs if they wish.
Best Wishes

JohnThomas,

I am sitting in the choir for your sermon on this one. I also have a limited amount of sympathy for folks who use their BXs with the low ground clearance in situations where they have to accept personal responsibility for their decisions and the consequences.

My one and only concern is NOT that Kubota should provide these free of charge. I don't believe Kubota needs to do that. Yes, as other customers would have to foot the cost as it is passed on. Didn't suggest that, or if I seemed to imply that, allow me to clarify.

I simply am of the opinion that this new, improved shield needs to be made available. Is it? The reference to the seat was meant to be a compliment to Kubota in dealing with an issue. I didn't mean to imply that a seat was comparable to the shield.

Yeah, you may be right; don't know the cost of production and such. I couldn't find one so I am going with Bro Tek as they provide better protection for what I do anyway.

As to the added cost of putting them on all tractors, maybe it could have been part of the FEL "package", but it is a moot point now as apparently it is on all of them.

I am sure a lot of people including myself never use the brackets to hold your 3-point hitch up, but it's still on all of them isn't it?

Just to be very, very clear. I never asked that Kubota provide them for free. In fact, it is entirely appropriate for Kubota to charge for this new part. Heck, they can even make a profit on it. This would not cost any other consumer anything. Sorry, friends, (and I hope to keep this friendly) that is a smokescreen.

But I remain concerned that many BX owners are attempting to order the new guard and are finding none.

This is a quote from Kubota:

There was a change in the fan guard, there is a Serial Number break, the
new fan guard is slightly larger and will fit the older machines. There is
no provision to provide this for free, you can purchase it from your
dealer.

Part number for the new guard is K2681-21212

Kubota Customer Service

But can it be purchased from your dealer? That is my question.

My second question is this. Can anyone confirm the accuracy of this inventory sheet which seems to show that none are available?
