Mahindra 2538
I'm gathering up the last of what I need for the 50hr, service on my 2538. I was thinking about using Kubota udt2 Instead of the Mahindra oil. It seems like one of the best fluids out there, and the Kubota dealer is only 15 min away (Mahindra is 1.5 hour). Anyone have any experience with this in the 25 series, or a TYM?

I’m sure it’s fine as it’s highly rated. The TYM isn’t that picky from what I’ve read and heard. Some folks love the and some folks hate the big box store stuff. Seems like more of the complaints come from cold climates and or folks with HSTs.
Check out the Chevron THF 1000. It’s another that is universally liked and is available from a ton of places- probably a reason for that.

The 2538 is hydrostatic, I believe that's what the udt2 is supposed to work best with. I looked at the chevron as well, no where local has it, and the shipping is crazy expensive or I would prob try it.

Hi,

I have used SUDT2 in my New Holland TC29DA for some time and it is a huge improvement in performance in not only cold weather applications but also in summer as well. I am swapping my TC24DA I just bought in Scranton with 260 hours on it over to SUDT2 as well. Almost no tranny noise, which for Kubota is a real annoying issue and a reason I chose the 24 over a new B2601 in Sept of this year. You will pleased with the results.

SUDT2 is good stuff, but you do not need to replace the fluid at 50 hours, only change the filters.

Changing only the filters may sound good, but you have to drain all the fluid to do it. I'd be afraid to contaminate it if I reused the old stuff . Over the winter this tractor will see lots of short use (feeding the horses round bales). I think synthetic fluid will be better for cold starts, and short runs in the winter anyway. I don't like wasting money, but changing filters and draining/reusing fluid doesn't seem like a good idea.

Yah I wouldn’t pay to ship it. Typically someone obscure sells fuel and oils for fleets and or local truckers- they typically have the Chevron stuff. The Kubota stuff is good- you just pay for the name and dealer markup.

Nah -- it's possible to change filters-only without draining the fluid. This is fairly common. You can do a search here, as there are a lot of posts on the topic (you're not the first person on here to tangle with this problem on a 50 hour service, believe me).

At the most, you will lose maybe a cup or two. I normally make sure I have a spare quart on hand to replace any that gets lost, but I haven't ever needed much at all.

You will need to study and understand the filter and reservoir setup on the tractor. Normally, if you plug the breather, that is enough to prevent loss of fluid while a filter is removed and replaced. But you can use other tricks, such as parking the tractor on an incline or ramps to put the filters at a favorable angle. Some people use a shop vac on the fill port to pull a suction, but that is not needed in my experience -- plugging the breather has been enough for me.

What he said^. There is absolutely no need to drain the fluid to change the filters. I have done it several times. On Kubota's and on my Kioti. Just plug up the breather tube. Now don't forget to take the plug out before you fire her up.

By the way, I swapped over to SUDT2 in my Kioti this time. Time will tell how she does this winter, but I like it so far. Yes it is expensive, but I believe it to be a superior fluid.
