I dont know the model L1400 but I would check the saftey switches first. There is typically a switch on the clutch or on the
HST pedal. Sometimes they stick or the HST pedal is not returning exactly to the right place. You might try to rock the pedal if it is an HST while holding the key in the start position.

I have a T1400 and had this happened to me. I found that if you follow where the wires are by the foot pedal you press on the far right before you start it. Look just under the main floor deck (don't know the proper name) not the cutting deck, there appears to be some kind of micro safety switch. Either replace it or as a temporary measure find a short piece of wire bare both ends and jam them in the to short cut the circuit.
It worked for me but remember it overrides the safety so not really a long term fix.
I may of course be anything else but and easy place to start

3. Seat switch?
Any of those three will do it. Also many modern lawn tractors have reverse operation kill switches that will stop the engine if you have the PTO engaged and go in reverse. I don't think your T1400 has this nor that this is your problem since it only comes into play when the PTO is engaged.

Hi, just wanted to add that my t1400 quit also and the short story is that I tracked it to a small white box on the wiring harness on the left side of the tractor as you sit in the seat. This box has two 5 amp fuses and both were blown. I replace them and Bingo! It started right away. In my case, it was no switch or starter or solenoid etc. frustrated by the time it took to find it but now if it happens again, I will look at the fuses first.
