Hello again,

We are still trying to decide which machine would work for us. For those that have experience with an L35 or L48, does this machine have the capability to do the excavation necessary for a house foundation? Obviously with all the time in the world someone could get the job done with a hand shovel, but realistically is this something that one could do in a reasonable time with just a Kubota TLB or similar?

Thanks in advance, Tim

Well, again, you have to fill out your profile for a correct answer.. I live in New England where is is rocks, boulders, big rocks, bigger boulders and plenty of ledge in between.. I have a 48. ALthough I use it for my farm use, I wouldn't be afraid for one minute to to a foundation hole.. That is taking in consideration of the rock obtacles I listed.. The geology of your area would be the quickest answer for you I think..

Sorry about not updating the info, I live in NH so I am sure the land is similar to yours...they don't call it the GRANITE STATE for nothing!

An excavator is always going to be faster in digging a foundation than a backhoe. So NH has hard soil huh?

Well I can only afford one machine, and the machine has to be able to dig, move soil, run a post hole digger, plow snow, move trees/firewood etc, so I don't think an excavator will work for us at this point, but may be an option down the road.

I live in upper middle mass... and as Larryrb said the earth here is rock, boulders and bigger boulders. I use mine as a land mover, excavator, log hauler, and snow plow. I have even started digging a pond. My L48 has handled some pretty hard earth fortuitously. I have handled more weight than the published max for the backhoe using 800 lbs dead counter weight in the loader. While not as strong as a full blown excavator it handles almost everything I want to do and is much more versatile.
