What is general life expectancy of Kubota's TLB line (ie. L39, L47, etc), and do the TLBs use a more solid engine than their ag line?

Depends on how it's used/abused, I see plenty of Kubota tlb with couple thousand hours and still going strong, alot of them coming out of rental settings.

As for engines, they use the same engines that are used in all their equipment.

I'm not sure what you mean by a more solid engine? Kubota has a pretty good reputation for their engines and are used in a lot of comercial settings.
I have at least 2 smaller kubota engines with 3-4k hrs on them and you can't tell.

Generally Kubota sub-compacts and compacts (BX,B and L) easily last 5,000 hours with good maintenance.
The larger the tractor, higher the longevity. 100+ HP AG tractors, will last 10,000+ hours.

Believe your question is a bit leading, perhaps even suspect. I wish kubota had chosen another tier 4 path, avoiding the DPF. That said, their engines are practically bullet proof. A testament to this statement is kubota ownership, Review the avatar of many members. Often folks with new or newer kubotas, still own their original model from 25, 35, and more years gone by. These vintage tractors still hold monetary and sentimental value, So what was your concern regarding engine durability? Yea, thought so.

This is the 3rd thread on this subject in 2 days. It got me thinking.
I have never really considered the lifespan of a tractor.
From time to time I still see tractors from the 60's and 70's in the fields working so I figure with proper maintenance and repairs my tractor will outlast me.

Now for an operator that does not maintain his machine or operates it with broken or worn parts then I imagine that tractor could be locked up stuck in a ditch within a few years.

So I think the better question would be....

As a tractor owner, how long am I going to make this tractor last?

I know! Start a forth thread asking the same question! That will get it done :-(

And what emissions path avoids a Diesel Particulate Filter? I Know of ways for addressing the NOx emissions but what reduces the soot other then a filter? Early on the filters were pulled to clean/regenerate them and some engines over fueled and other engines have a dedicated injector for the burning in the regen cycle

DAVID,
BELOW is the Deere approach. JCB, Massey, Mahindra and others have similar solutions. Suggest using google or search posts on this site for further explanation.

The PowerTech PWL 4.5L is equipped with an Integrated Emissions Control system consisting of selective catalytic reduction (SCR), a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) and cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) technology. Elimination of the DPF was enabled through combustion system optimization and improvements in SCR system conversion efficiency.

As the tiers progress I am afraid that DPF will be eventually required on all diesels to satisfy the relentless EPA.
