Hi, I'm new here. Just bought a used Kubota F2400 mower with hydrostatic trans. Unit will try to move for just a second then it seems to release and not move forward or back. Hydralic deck still raises and lowers fine. Kubota dealer says $1800 for new tranny. Anyone know what I should check on tractor and/or where to get parts cheaper than the dealer. All help appreciated...Thanks!

you have probbaly already done this, but my first reaction would be to check the fluid levels, especially the tranny fluid having the fluid too low will cause symptoms like those you describe, then I would check the rest of the drivetrain (if it is like the similar looking JD I used to work on, it probbaly has belts driving the hyd pumps), I would also probbaly change the hydro filters and flush the hydro fluid if it looks marginal. otherwise, your guess is as good as mine.

on the deck raising and lowering well (this is just a guess), it may have 2 pumps (drive and lift), or a priority valve (search the forums for more info on those) and part of the system isnt working.
