Runs great, mounted in a Case 560 trencher, but will not turn off with key. I pulled the shutoff solenoid and it seems to work properly.

This trencher has been around the block, so I don't know what may have been done to it before I got it, but, when I pull the solenoid I'm thinking something else is missing... the rod from the solenoid doesn't seem to have anything to contact... I stick my finger in the solenoid hole and feel nothing but open space... is there a piston or something that may be missing?

Hmmm... the end of the solenoid rod is simply a straight rod... how in the world would it hook onto anything? Do you know of a diagram available anywhere online so I could look at it?

this is the solenoid... the mechanical lever to shut off the fuel is on the outside of the housing, the solenoid rod goes into the housing which has the fuel rails coming off of the top of it...

It appears that the solenoid is actually a double-acting solenoid since it has three wires. This would suggest some form of connection inside the housing where the plunger would press on a swinging, spring loaded surface which in turn, might turn off a fuel valve. It makes sense that all this would be protected within a housing. On the other hand, since the linkages are either broken or detached, you may have to open the housing to fix it. Is it possible to look through the hole in the housing to find out how it works?

I invite someone with specific knowledge to help solve this. Plse let us all know what the answer is when you do find it. Thx.

I did find, at least I think I did, a kit that allows a solenoid to be moved to a bracket by the manual cut off instead of the original... have to find my serial number to see if the kit will fit.

Repairing the original would be my preference.

I didn't have a mirror to look inside, but that's my next step... actually a cell phone pic would have worked to look inside but I didn't think of it at the time!

Hi vicg1. I am not familiar with your particular engine/machine, but on my Kubota D722, as well as many others I have seen, failure to kill engine with key turn off is a common occurrence. Could be key switch, relay, fuse, or fuel stop solenoid. I just use the manual kill switch and don't worry about it. My machine even has a hole with a plug built into the frame below the gauge cluster that lines up perfectly with the manual kill switch. I can't see any other application for it other than allowing the owner to install a wire to shut the engine off via manual kill switch without opening the hood.

Good luck. Jeff

Yeah, I manually kill it, and they even sell a factory cable to mount the way you describe... just wanted to fix it the right way but it may not be worth the trouble especially since the solenoid itself seems to work properly... probably an issue inside the pump which I wouldn't want to get into.
