I need some help! I have 3.5 acres to mow and am trying to decide between the Kubota (ZG23 or ZD21) and the Cub Cadet M60 Tank. I'd love to get the ZD21 diesel, but it's alot more money. Any thoughts out there? I want a very durable machine that will last a long time. I'm only looking to mow my grass - not for commercial use. Is the Kubota worth the extra money? Thanks. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

When you say Kubota is a lot more money that really doesn't say much. Alot is not so much to some and so much to others. Kubota is a good product, but then, Cub is also. The Cub is listed in their commercial catalog where the Kubota isn't, probably doesn't mean much.

I guess you have to decide, I think both products are good. How about the dealer, which one do you feel the most comfortable with? Which one is going to give you the best support after the sale? Take that all into consideration and then decide if the Kubota is to much.

We've got a ZD21 with the 60" PRODeck, it is a simply awesome machine with first class engineering components, super smooth, super quiet, and super economical. Paid $9,500 for it new and worth ever cent.

Appreciate the insight. "Alot" more money means the diesel is almost $3,000 more than the gas counterpart (kubota or cub). The ZG23 Kubota only comes with a 54" deck vs. a 60" deck for the Cub -- both are roughly $6,600.

That does put a whole different light on things. The Kubota gas and Cub gas are the same price or fairly close. Your question is then, is the diesel worth 3,000 more. Based on your pricing the diesel is almost 50% more!! I am not so sure I would spend the money on it. The diesel would last a lot longer but you can buy 1-1/2 gas units for what the diesel is. You have a tough decision in front of you.

I sell both and I'd take the Kubota over the Cadet for overall costs of ownership. Look at the quality of build, spindle heights, belt sizes.

It ticks some people off, but I've mentioned before that I have two relatives who bought Cub products and are extremely disappointed in them to put it mildly. Also, Consumer Reports has consistantly listed Cub Cadet as one of the least reliable mowers for years. My personal experience with working on my relatives and taking them back and forth to the dealer constantly has made me a believer in the write ups listing them being unreliable.

I'd have to believe that they have to improve their product, and maybe they have begun doing so. Otherwise, I couldn't imagine them being in business much longer. Again, I know that statement will fire up the Cub lovers, but my experience with them has backed up what I've read about them. Sorry.

My father bought a cub riding mower a few years ago. I have been completly unimpressed. I really wouldn't and didn't consider a Cub CUT because of it. Now, it's not totally fair to compare a riding mower with a CUT or a Zero turn but...

Anyway, have you looked at any of the other zero turns? It seems most of the landscapers around here run Bobcats, Scags, or eXmarks.

I sell both, I'd buy Kubota. I am a big fan of the drive train, IMO thats the biggest weakness of any ZTR. Kubota just extended the drive train warrenty for all ZTR's from 2 to 4 Years.
