any advice on HST tractors

Yes. If you intend to do a lot of loader work, or work around people on the ground, do a lot of landscaping or operate on hilly ground, you want one.

I would not care to get into a brand thing.:)

We get into brand things here all the time, but polity VERY polity. So you have already settled on an HST? We would have to know what size tractor you want and how many acres you have to drive it on plus a few other important details up to and including your mother-in laws maiden name.
Some manufacturers excel at the small stuff while others sub that out and concentrate on the bigger units. So there is no one guy is always the best even when you limit the field to HST.
One thing you should do is try to operate the split brakes on an HST tractor while moving ahead or backward. Some of them can do it and some can't.

the largest HST available for small farm and snow clearing

:welcome:
Suggestions: ('ballpark')

Min 30 hp for the first 10 acres farmed. Another 5hp per 10 AC up to 75hp/100AC. (to ~50hp or so available w/HST) Kioti or LS for the $$, Kubo or Deere for prestige, all have nice offerings in 30-50hp w/HST, cab, etc.

Use FEL for snow, & R-4 rubber ok there if loaded. (Chains trump any tire w/o.) Use Box Blade for c/wt and to pull snow into piles to be placed where Spring melt can drain away from drive. btw: Advise against a blade/plow for snow on gravel as 'curbs' will develop over seasons.
_______

Dealer service matters much if you tend to break stuff &/or hate to get your hands dirty, but IMO it's ergonomics that will matter to the operator(s). Might want to get a feel for implement sizes, prices, availability of used, etc for the scope of tasks at hand, then find the tractor sized to work 'em.

For me it came down to how the operator station fit, each one had its pros and cons. Gotta drive em all! (Thats the fun part)

Find your closest dealers, go ask questions, and test drive the models that seem to fit your needs for the amount of work you will use your tractor for.

Agreed, if you don't like the way the tractor feels we will never make that up. Go drive a couple and pick out some models. IMO, if you are doing tillage, you need a power reverser/geared transmission if you are looking at implements over 6' wide. Hydro's are great for snow blowing and rototilling though! I love doing loader work with my L3400 kubota HST. Very quick and maneuverable.

Do you have some more info for the tasks? Do you already have any implements? Are you buying all new implements to fit your machine? Are you doing any tillage or more hobby stuff?
