I was operating my KX121-3 digging and stratching some dirt. Went to move the EX and one of the track, the left one, would not move. I though it was the drive motor, but it will move backwards, not forward. I don't know, it might be the drive motor...I hope not. Investigated some more and the valve is making an awful racket, like the hyd is being over pressured. When I engage in the reverse, the noise goes away and the track move. When in neutral or foward, the noise is obivous. I checked for leaks all around, but nothing is wet. I am thinking:
* The valve is bad
* The valve is contaminated
* The drive motor is bad...I hope not

I don't have a manual and don't know where to even start to troubleshoot. I am a decent mechanic and not afraid to get my hands dirty, but this KX121-3 is still new to me.
Any help at all would be great!

Bob,
When trying to drive forward can you tell if one or both or neither of the hoses going to the drive motor stiffen from pressure?

If only one then I would look for either some mechanical binding while going forward or possibly motor failure. I would find it strange for a motor to fail in one direction only though.

If Both hoses stiffen there is something blocking or restricting the return line from the motor.

Neither hose stiffens: Flow is not getting through the directional valve to drive the motor.

good luck with your flat tire.

From what I can tell, the valve is where the problem lies. When in neutral, the hyd strain making a wining noise. It gets worst when I activate it forward, but in reverse the noise is gone and the drive motor cycles backward. I talked to a couple of hyd guys here and they think the valve/spool is where the problem lie. I hope so.

*The Gecko says the that line better than me.
