Guys a new owner of a L4310 and having a lift problems, the lift is strong and holds good but it only goes all the way up or all the way down no in between. I have changed the Hyd filter. I did a search but could not find a thread with this problem, I have used multi settings on the knob under the seat without any change, any one have any ideas on the fix?

Do you have draft control on the tractor? There will be 2 levers instead of just one if you do. Try moving the one closest to the seat all the way forward, then try the outer one to raise and lower the 3 point.

Thanks Dave but I only have one control.

This is getting beyond my level of knowledge, but there is a control valve for the 3 pt that sits at the top of the rear end in front of the lift cylinder and 3 pt arms, and there is also a feedback mechanism consisting of a linkage rod and lever mechanism on the left side of the 3 pt cylinder assembly. I'd begin by looking at the situation in that area for obvious signs of something loose, broken, seized up or missing. If visual inspection doesn't uncover any obvious problems, there's most likely some internal problem, possibly with the control valve. It's kind of hard to see all this because it's right under the seat. If you take the seat off, there is an access panel you can remove to see some of what's going on, but anything complex will probably require removing the fenders and the deck, which isn't hard but does take some time.

Thanks Grandad, I think you may have pointed me in the right direction, I bought this tractor with known problems of hard to move controls, rust on everything in the rear from it looks like using a spredder without a shield and not kept in a shed, I have got everything loose and working good except the lift problem. I had to make a rear tool box as it was completely rusted out and a new one was over $600 local but I'd does come with the metal behind the seat that I didn't need.
The lift control, hi lo speed control , lift arm control , throttle control, tilt wheel, seat and seat firmness control and the lift speed control under the seat were all solid or partially stuck. I used a homemade remedy of 50 % acetone and 50% Dexron lll trans fluid penetrate that really works good.

I wish you luck with it. These "compact tractors" with an operator platform are very handy for property care, light earthmoving, light logging, road care, etc., but they were never meant to be farm tractors that live and work in barnyard muck or do heavy field work. The rear end of yours and my Kubota Lxx10's are good examples of that... a perfect catch-all place for dirt, mud and manure that can't be easily cleaned out. Hopefully your homebrew can get everything cleaned out and functioning again. If it were mine and I wanted to keep it (good old tractor, by the way, but I'm a bit biased!), I'd make a wintertime project of taking it all apart, cleaning, removing the corrosion, fresh paint, lube, etc.

Well to Grandad from a GGrandad I thank you it was as you susgested and after working on it for a little more than a hr with a par of vise grips, hammer and the home brew it is moving but not as loose as I would like so I am letting it soak. You are right it was covered with hay dirt and crud and extreamly rusty I will kill the rust with ospho and prime later.
