Kubota 3240
Prepping for my 400-hour service.

I think this is a very basic question, so my apologies, but is it true that the transmission and HST use the same system for fluid/same reservoir?

Oh, and Super UDT versus UDT? I bought a gallon of UDT at 200hr for proper fill level. I think I went with UDT because either the Kubota dealer recommended, or that was all they carried.

Thank you.

Pretty much all tractors have the transmission housing as the common sump for all hydraulics.

For HSTs (and GSTs to a large degree) you only want to use SUDT or SUDT2. The 2 is better if you run into cold weather, otherwise the SUDT should be fine. Going with something other than those 2 will likely result in a noisy HST transmission & possibly lesser performance.

I use the kubota super UDT2 for my HST. Expensive stuff at $20/gallon ($100 for a 5-gal bucket).

My old L3400 gear tractor I just used Traveller universal tractor fluid from TSC @$35/bucket

Talked with my dealer at length about this. And he has always treated me good and never a sales-man mentality. And a kubota owner himself.

He said two things that he wouldn't use anything but kubota OEM stuff for. Thats Hydraulic oil and hydraulic filters. Aftermarket fuel filters, aftermarket engine oil/filter, and all that other stuff.....he will blatantly tell me save my money and NOT use kubota stuff.

I questioned the cost of the super udt and weather it really was that good, and worth it. In his opinion yes it was.

Im still not convinced.

Certainly someone makes this oil for kubota. And what about similar HST tractors from JD, Kioti NH, Mahindra, etc.
All similar components, and similar systems....oil requirement should be the same.

Dealer told me that they spent some time researching different oil MFG's to find a compatible oil for those that didnt want to spend the money. No one makes it he said.

I spent the money for the super UDT for lack of being able to find something else. And based on everyones comments here on TBN.....seems to be the same consensus

According to my dealer, the average Kubota owner puts around 150 hrs / yr on their tractors. For most HST tractors, that means a transmission oil change every two to three years. Is it worth saving +/- $100 ($40 per year or so) to use non OEM oil and risk voiding a warranty? There has been much discussion here at TBN on this like:

I suppose if you're a commercial operator, have several tractors and use them frequently, or just use the heck out of the one you own, the savings could add up. It's an individual choice. Opinions on this obviously vary but in my case, I'll stick with the Kubota SUDT2 product.

I use kubota hst and hyd filters at 50 hours . Then at 300 hours changed hdy oil to mobilfluid 424 with kubota filters 500 hours on the machine l3800 hst no problems. I got 8, 5 gal buckets for free

2005 L4330 , I've changed oil and filters according to the manual. Kubota filters, Napa UDT, 2100 hrs. Going strong

Around here my Kubota dealer is cheaper then NAPA, same people own every NAPA within driving distance, and yes SUPER UDT makes a difference in the HST and GST transmissions.

UDT is usually a bit cheaper than SUDT2 but it's been my experience that there will be more gear whine with UDT.
