We learn as we go...right? Actually I need to stop thinking this way as it's costing me a lot of money each season. I completely rebuilt the mower deck last spring to replace everything & I mean everything. Welp, the black plastic mower wheels are so worn, they have rubbed a grove in the steel bracket they're mounted on.

Durp durp...here's my hard knock learning part. These wheels are to keep the deck from scalping the grass and not meant to support the full weight of the deck during every mow. Think about it, plastic wheel on a steel bolt with no lube NONE. OH, my height adjustment lever broke mid season and I thought it would be just fine mowing on lowest setting until I found time to take it all apart & weld it all back together. Big durp !

Back to square-1 getting ready for next spring...Let's learn how to level the mower deck so these wheels aren't carrying all the weight. Also, let's get some new wheels ordered. I feel another MOD coming as ya'll can help me design a bushing along with a grease zert for each wheel.

Really, the two front deck wheels should pivot in some way as they do dig during sharp corners. I can weld up something that looks clean and almost like it's meant to be there. It urks me to halfass fix things having it look like hammered sheeit or just plainly rigged.

As the new wheels ship, I also need to get my camera working. I was lucky to get the pics of my steering mod for ya'll.

Let's get this done.

Set the deck according to the manual instructions, and the deck wheels won't wear out prematurely and won't dig in on sharp corners.. both problems solved.
If you don't have those instructions, give a shout out.. we can help.

The L120 Operator's Manual is available on the Deere website. It contains the deck leveling procedure.

Bought all new clip pins for when the deck goes back on. Wheels are on order. Read the instructions & watched a few YT's. I have a suspicion that the front of the deck was down as far as it would go. This is height controlled by the single rod leading up to the axle pivot? Maybe this wasn't adjusted right.

That front height of the deck is controlled by that single rod (named the "front draft rod" in the manual) and is adjusted so the leading edge of the center blade is slightly lower than the trailing edge by 1/4".
