Hello , and thanks for a great forum , I am the recent purchaser of a well used L175 .

I was doing a once over on the tractor , belt , hoses, filters , etc ... and was going to change out the hydraulic fluid/ gear oil .

Are the fluids one in the same case , I see a fill plug on top of the main case where I assume it gets added , what fluid do I use and are there two fluids for the hydraulic's and gear cases in back ? How much fluid is "full" and how do I tell ?

I also noticed there is a left rear axle seal leaking , how hard is this to replace ? Does it require alot of disassembly ?

I really should have an operators manual and service manual for this , where is a good place for these ?

Sorry for all of the quetions for a newbie , but I am just trying to collect as much info as I can .

Great forum , hopefully I will be able to controbute some back .

Thanks in advance

TOM

Hi and welcome to TBN - the L175 has a common reservoir for hydraulic oil and trans oil - all the same. There's a stainless steel mesh filter inside a small cover at the lower edge of the left side of the trans. If you don't drain the oil first it will come out that hole when the filter tube is taken out. Cheapest to refill with general purpose tractor hydraulic oil from agway etc. - takes about 4-5 gallons I think.

The rear axle leak may just be a worn seal but those seals are very good and it is more commonly due to worn bearings. Test for looseness of the rear wheel - jack it up and see if it wobbles vertically - if it has some play it may have a failed inner bearing and maybe a cracked outer bearing cap. Go to tractorsmart.com and request a .pdf parts manual for the L175 - Ronnie is very helpful and those parts are all available in a few days for very reasonable money.

Have fun with your 'bota.;)

L175 is a good little machine. I tried to buy one from my BIL but he opted to keep it. He's pretty rough on it. I just ordered $1200 worth of parts from Messicks. That's for 2 items. Main tranny shaft and one gear. That is about $700 less than the local dealer. They are due to get here on Friday. He wants to use the little RC for cleanup around the house.

That L175 parts manual mentioned above was one of my contributions!!

Good Luck and post some pics!!

Rob
