L2500 not starting suddenly

I was moving the boat with my L2500 yesterday and the tractor started and was running great. After shutting the tractor off to unhook the hitch and do some cleaning I went to restart the tractor and just got a clicking noise for a couple of turns, then nothing.

I pulled the battery and had that checked, it was OK. So next we pulled the starter and had that checked it was OK as well. I cleaned all the posts and connections and reassembled with di-electric grease. I got the same situation, the dash lights would light up, it would click a couple of times then nothing. Now the lights won't turn on and I am getting nothing from the starter.

Any ideas? We looked at the safety switch but don't have an ohm meter to check it, there was no visible issue with it. Any help would be appreciated.

Probably a bad cable crimp/joint. Do you have a DC voltmeter?

I would agree with Spyder. Sounds like a high resistance if the battery is fully charged.

I have learned over many years, the biggest culprit in situations like you describe, is the battery. I note you had the battery tested but batteries are sometimes real problems. Just for the halibut, try another battery that you know is working properly. Years ago I had a similar problem with an International truck. After replacing the starter, solenoid and new battery cable ends, an old guy told me to try another battery, I did, you guessed it, that was the problem. The original battery checked out OK, but it wasn't. Good luck.

The original battery must have "checked" out OK, to not be. A battery test done right entails sampling terminal voltage while the batt is supporting a significant load.
