L2501 opinons and feedback

Finally got around to calling Barlow's today for a quote on a L2501 and was hoping to get some opinions and feedback on this model.

I think it would do well for my needs--mow 2 acres of yard, clear driveway, some bush hogging, moving firewood, some dirt work and misc chores for trail building and keeping up the hobby farm.

A part of me wonders if I should go bigger but I don't think I can justify spending too much more money for my needs. I'm still trying to find a good deal on used, but prices around here seem kind of high, even for some of the older models. They have a deal going on with the skid steer forks that only adds $150 to cost of tractor--add in warranty and no interest and hard not to buy new.

Anyway, would appreciate opinions and especially feedback from anyone who has one.

I just bought an L2501. I actually went for a B series. I only have a few acres (2.38 to be exact) and the B series size fit the current property well. We are eyeballing the 6 acres next door when it becomes available again tho.

My process was internet pricing of a B on the Kubota site with the options that I wanted. = Scared.

Internet pricing of the Green One with options I wanted = More Scared.

Call Mahindra dealer for pricing and it was reasonable, low interest loans, asked about availability of parts and was told they could get anything I needed within a week to 4 weeks.

Called Kubota dealer and asked for pricing on a list of things in the B series. He returned with three quotes, 2 in the B series and the L2501. Surprisingly the L2501 package was the cheapest, even cheaper than the Mahindra eMax25 over the life of the loan due to no interest financing. Even after the wife threw in the plastic pedal tractor for the grandkids

My uses are boxblade and FEL for driveway maintenance, we have a dry creek that goes to a 40 foot wide river over our drive when we get heavy rains. 60" finish mower and backhoe because I owned one at one time, used it a LOT and would have regretted not adding it to the package. I plan on getting a tiller for it once I get some of the other work around here done for a garden, unless I decide on large raised beds.

I have owned it a bit over a week, have almost 30 hours on it and it has done everything I asked it to do. Although it did struggle a bit on mesquite stumps with the BH77 backhoe. But my previous experience with mesquite stumps were with a Case 580c and that is an unfair comparison

Price was right, a bit more tractor that I need but will do just fine. Financing was great at 0% and finally Tier IV with no EGR, no DPF and no DEF which was huge for me. I work in transit and even the best Tier IV 25hp+ solutions can be quite costly down the road. If they are not absolute night mares to begin with. (Just my experience)

Someone else who has had theirs longer will probably chime in with better info for you but there is my story.

L2501 should be ideal size for TWO acres, unless your hobby farm is separate and larger.

If you negotiate a package, buying your implements with your tractor, you will pay considerably less than buying the implements individually.

My first impression is that the L2501 would do all that you would need to do. As stated above get all of the implements you think you will need up front. Good luck and let us know how you make out .

I want a cab so I was thinking the B2650 (B3350 got me scared with all the reported tier IV regen issues) The jump to the L3560 is quite the price increase and then still have to deal with potential regen issues. Not sure what to do.

I am right there as well. The rebates on the 3301 are a little better than the 2501. About $700.00 more dollars in rebates means the difference between the two are about $1,500 dollars. No DPF on the 2501 is kind of what I am dwelling on in my decision.

I too was concerned about the hype that is out there regarding Tier IV before I bought my L3901. After I researched it and spoke to some knowledgeable folks on the topic, I decided to move forward and am glad I did. I would encourage you to do the same by researching the topic both on TBN and elsewhere.

The long list of "ultra" features, starting with the HST+ transmission and the considerable additional chassis weight of the L3560 are wonderful and enhance productivity. Price is unquestionably higher, even more so in Canada.

Price aside, relative to the ultra features, the Tier IV equipment issue is PIFFLE, at least as of 700 engine hours.

I agree. Buy what you really want now. I bought a l3200 which was a excellent tractor, but I really wanted a Grand L. Luckily 5 years later I sold at a very good price and bought what I initially wanted. Best decision I made besides not doing it from the start.

Well, finally pulled the trigger today and bought a tractor! (Wife breathes huge sigh of relief at this point). Was really close to ordering L2501 from Barlow but came home today and saw new posting on Craigs list for 2014 B2650 with 28 hours at a great price. Went and looked at it, talked to wife, called bank, bought tractor. I know each model has some advantages but I think the 2650 will do fine for us and for sure a step up over my beloved, but old, 77 DT245. Will pick it up in the next few days and update you after some seat time. Thanks for the feedback and advice.
