L2650 (borrowed)
Hello,
I am borrowing a friend's L2650 for a month
while he is out of the country.
It has a loader and backhoe.
I have filled the backhoe hyd. fluid to
full on the dipstick - he left me a 5-gallon jug.
Is the fill cap on the tractor beneath the seat
(red cap that states "oil") for the loader fluid ??
The liquid in there looks more like hyd. fluid,
and the lines head in and out of this area.
Do I fill it until I see it reach the metal ring ??

I changed the engine oil, which was VERY black.
I do not think there is transmission fluid,
as it is not an automatic...

Other than greasing the fittings,
is there any other preventive maintenance
I should be doing ??

Thanks,
You guys (and this tractor) are convincing me
that I need one of these babies for my ten.
Now if I can convince the wife...

bilkar - the transmission and loader both use the same hydraulic oil and it does go in at the red cap beneath the seat. You don't fill it to the top, though! There's a sight glass somewhere - a little round glass in the side of the transmission case that has a full line on it. It should be on the side somewhere, I think. Like maybe near the clutch or brake pedal but back toward the seat a bit. At least, that's where it is on the L2250's. Make sure the tractor is as close to level as possible when you check it. Just a few inches can make the difference from right on full to no oil showing in the glass or it appearing to be over full. I hope this helps.

Other than that, it sounds like you've got it covered. If you use it for bushhogging, make sure the radiator or screen, if it has one, doesn't get clogged up and make the engine overheat.

Grease the fittings and that's it.

BILL.. I have a L2650 with all the manuals, if you have any questions and can give a little time, I will try to find the answers. The sight glass is on the left side behind the clutch pedal and above the floor plate. The book list 9 transmission fluids form all the major companies. Chevron tractor hydraulic fluid is one. Kubota recommends the UDT fluid. The L2650 is a great little tractor if a little loud... Best

BILL... One thing I missed in your questions, was where do you put the oil.. Yes the red cap behined the seat, or under the little pad between you feet when you are seating on the tractor. The little black tab comes up and there is a black cap to unscrew....

jag,
I will probably take you up on the manual
reference if something else comes up
between now and august when I have to part
with this baby...

as for noise, I am not sure that the engine is
louder than the rattling.
But she is MUCH quieter than the old red MF
that I used to own - far more powerful as well.

thanks again,
