L275 won't even turn over now

I went to jump my tractor with a dead battery and got the leads crossed. Almost immediately there was a puff of smoke coming from near the starter. Now nothing happens at all. No power anywhere when the jumpers are connected correctly. Is there a fuse able link somewhere or did I just fry every electrical component on the tractor. Please help, I love my old Kubota and promise to be more careful in the future.
p.s. the location of these batteries is ridiculous , my only complaint about the tractor:confused2:

could be a fuse somewhere, did you try disconnecting the batt cable from the starter, then run your black jumper cable to ground and the red cable to the starter directly, will it trun over ? Make sure once you re connect the tractor battery to the starter the connedction is clean then seee if you have any dash lites or clicks when you turn the ignition

YES tried jumping right to the starter and nothing, the weather was horrible and I couldn't get the brush protector off the side of the engine as the exhaust was rusted on , so I may have not gotten a great connection. Once the weather is warmer I will try again, but can't help but think In there is a fireable link or something similar that I fried

Check the fusable link grounding the starter to the engine block. At least on a L285 it's on the top back of the starter.
