So I figured I'd give an update on this issue. Still having the issue and it progressed to the point of tapping the solenoid didn't work anymore. But I did notice that wiggling the electrical connector energized the solenoid and it would start. I pulled the solenoid and bench tested it and found nothing wrong. Reinstalled and made a couple jumper wires to go from the electrical plug to the solenoid and it worked perfectly for over a week. Pulled the jumper and plugged in the connector ,,, no worky. So it's the connector. I pulled the individual connectors out of the plastic housing and bent them to provide better contact and now it works perfectly again. Going to have to source a new connector.
Glad I figured this out as I was ready to drop the bucks on a new solenoid that wouldn't have fixed the problem.
