After manually digging out the majority of an oak root cluster and sawing through the primary roots, I chained-up to my gearmore box to pull the stump. After tensioning and rocking a few times, I heard a heat-sinking clank and the box dropped. My local Kubota shop says I probably sheared the internal lift-arm (hitch-rod?), just under the seat pan. There are no external signs of beakage or leaking. With the box removed, the two arms move up/down freely with no sounds coming from within. The elevation lever does nothing. The 3PH does not have the drafting feature.
I've had the 2950 for about six years, but I typically use it for snowblowing and occasional property maintenance; this is the first major problem I've had and I have some questions about getting it repaired:
1) Does anyone have an idea of how bad/expensive the damage could be? What is the name of the part that I would have broken?
2) Is this something that I might be able to repair myself? I gather that the fender(s) and seat-pan will have to come off to get to the top housing of the assembly. I see a gasket between the upper housing and the gear-box that will need replacement.
3) What are the chances that I actually broke whatever the internal hydraulic arm is anchored to inside the housing?
4) How far out of reasonable operation was I? Clearly, the downwards pressure on the box was high, but I didn't expect the traction to exceed the capability of a critical internal component.
5) Could there be loose pieces that would drop into more sensitive areas? How should I move the tractor onto a trailer?
6) Aside from "don't do that again", is there a way to prevent this from happening again? How do you know when you are nearing a break-point? I thought I read in the mesasge boards about some kind of excess pressure valve for the 3PH.
Thanks much for your help
