Hi guys.

Well the dealer delivered the L3000DT w/FEL and 6' rear FM since I have been here. I am not happy with how things have gone so far. Some things are my own fault and some the dealer, no problem with tractor though.

The delivery guy gave a 3 min explaination of the tractor and then said he had to fly to make another delivery. I wasn't too mad about that thinking I could look up anything I needed to know in the owners manual. I looked in the envelope of stuff he left and NO manual. FEL manual and assembly instructions and some other stuff, no manual. Called dealer, he said come in and they will give it to me. 40 miles away!

Ok sorry about the crying. My stupidness here. I thought the L3000 comes with the 450 FEL. I just assumed that it would and I am not sure why. Am I right? Mine was delivered with a 400 FEL. I can't remember what was on it when I looked at it last week at dealer. I looked at paper work from the deal and it just says "Kubota L3000DT w/LOADER. So I don't know what to think about that.

Another question. Someone stole the seat from my tractor while on the dealers lot. I thought I read that the L3000DT came standard with the seat WITH arm rests. Mine doesn't have them, should it? Dealer said they put the correct seat on the tractor. ???

I am not ready to give my thoughts on the tractor yet. I spent about 1.5 hours in the seat Friday evening and it poured rain all day Saturday so I just checked it all over and mostly just looked at it with a smile all day. I made another mistake too. When I looked at and bought the tractor it was cold and snowing and wet outside. I looked at the tractor but I didn't really look at it like I did on Saturday. I went from a 52 8N to my FIRST NEW tractor. When looking at it close I was disapointed with the rust and scratches on the tractor. Every where paint is missing or a scatch it is rusted. The nuts on the loader hydo lines are rusted. Unpainted bolts and nuts are rusty. I didn't see these things when it was wet and snowing out, my fault. The thing is that it will never be out in the rain now that I have it. I don't work in the rain and it will always be kept inside. If I could have started with a tractor that didn't set outside all winter it would look like new for many years. I know it is a tractor but I never owned a new one before and mine doesn't look NEW.

What is the knob directly under the seat that says <open - close>, I can not turn it, seems to be rusted too.
One more, when on tractor there is a pedal made of 3/4" round stock to the rear of right foot. It has a sticker near it that represents a differential. I guess this locks or unlocks the rear dif. Please tell me how this works. I'm sorry I didn't get the manual yet.

Thanks for the help guys. I will give a full report on tractor after I get to spend more time on it.

If the knob under the seat is the same as on mine, it dampens the 3 point hitch drop. If you turn it all the way closed, you can stand on the 3 point hitch and it won't go down.

The little pedal with the differential level should be the differential lock. I think it just locks the rear differential and you use it when you have one wheel spinning. I had an opportunity to try it today, but it didn't help. Raising the backhoe stabilizers did though /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

I don't know about the rust - I bought mine Kubota used. I'll be buying a can of #2 Orange paint in the next few weeks...

Congrats on your new arrival, Rick!

It's one handsome lookin' fella, and bears a strong resemblance to my own L2500DT.

Don't sweat getting the LB400 FEL. Apparently the LA450 is supposed to be a notch more rugged, but I've beat the crap out of my own 400 and it shows virtually no signs of wear. I've (accidentally) rammed the bucket into a partially buried rock hard enough to stall the tractor, and I've tried to lift more than the hydraulics could handle (out on the end of my bucket forks, no less), and it hasn't deformed or complained in any way.

If you look at the spec's for both (see attachment), all you see is that the 450 is a tad heavier, but is otherwise identical to the 400. In fact, by my reckoning, since the bucket is heavier and the loader has the same lift capacity as the 400, it would seem that the 450 can't pick up as much cargo weight as the 400. (Someone feel free to straighten me out on this if I'm wrong.)

I'm guessing the 450 is intended for commercial, everyday use. For guys like us, the 400 is fine and dandy.

Thanks for the answers guys.

I am still in the dark about exactly how you use the dif lock pedal though. Can you step on it while spinning? Does it stay locked after pushing it or must you keep you foot on it?

Harv,
Thanks for looking at my new girls picture, I hoped someone would. After reading your post and looking at the loader/bucket spec sheet you posted I feel much better about the loader.

Anyone know if my seat should have arm rests?

I sure am glad I found this place! Don't know where I would find the kind of freindly help I have found here. THANKS

Do NOT engage the diff. lock while the wheels are moving. I tore up a nice CaseIH 255 doing that. There are many types of abuse that I heaped on that little tractor and got away with, that is NOT one of them.
My Kubota had a few rust spots on it, also a couple of scuffs. You will get over it after a while, but I suspect if you mention the rust and ask for a couple cans of Kubota paint, the dealer will be happy to hand them over. Nothing like detailing your own tractor to get familiar with it.
I also found that Allis Chalmers Orange is the same color (for me) and was less expensive.
I am sorry your dealer stiffed you, try not to let it sour you on a great new tractor. Get the manual and study it, make it yours by cleaning it up, you will know it is done right and will know your machine better than if you rely on someone else to do it. Enjoy!

If I'm not mistaken the differential lock only works as the pedal is being pushed down, making power to both rear wheels at the same time. When the pedal is up only one has torque.

The L3000 is an "economy" tractor, which means no frills. I guess armrests are frills.

I found a listing of "standard" equipment for a L3000DT on Carver's website. I don't know how to post a link here yet so here it is.

http://carverequipment.com/l2600_l3000_standard_equipment.htm

It shows a seat with arm rests as standard??? I don't need them, but if I am to have 'em, I want them.

Is HTML used to post a link here?

Thanks for the input on the dif lock guys.

Congratulations on your new machine! I am sure you will enjoy it immensely and soon forget about the initial hiccups. Like someone said earlier don't let small issues spoil your fun!

I would like to hear from some other folks about the differential lock. The manual on my L3600 doesn't say anything about depressing it while the tires are spinning. I have used it while in motion on a number of tractors over the last 15 years and have not have a problem. Of course, this does not mean that it's correct. Maybe kubmech will comment.

Again, good luck, have fun and be safe!!!!
