I need help. I was using my box blade spreading fill sand dirt for a pad to build a house. I was using four wheel drive going forward when I heard a noise coming from back of my tractor. The noise was not very loud and lasted maybe five seconds. When I got to back blade to push dirt it would not spin frt. tires. Now when I turn short right or left I hear a noise in rear end but not all the time. On the four wheel drive lever it seems to engage and disengage alright. The four wheel drive does not work period. I would appreciate any help any of you can give me. I think I can get ready for some big bucks.

You need to get under it and inspect the front drive shaft, you have to remove the cover. Could be one of the couplers at each end of the shaft, or?

Something similar happened to my brother-in-law's L3000. No FWD, noise sounded like it was coming from the rear. We tore it apart starting from the rear and working forward to find it was the coupling between the drive shaft and input to the front axle. The noise was transmitted to the rear. It turned out to be a very expensive repair on his because the root problem was that the trunnions on the front axle of his tractor have no grease fittings. They had worn allowing the front axle to rock back and forth. The misalignment caused the spline wear.

Pretty much what I went through with our old L3750. No grease fittings in the front axle trunnions (pivot points). But ours striped the splines off the pinion gear and not the coupler. New ring & pinion gears, couplers, new drive shaft, bearings, seals, etc... $1200+ in parts. I did install grease fittings while it was apart.

Never understood why no grease fittings there on this tractor? Add a FEL and a bunch of hours and you have a big mess!!! Every tractor I've look at had fittings at the front axle pivot.

Hope the OP's problem isn't this bad.
