Kubota L3130, JD GX345
I'm looking at a L3010 tractor on ebay and see it is a 31hp machine, but my question is this a big enough tractor to operate a 5' rotary mower? How does this tractor compare in size to the current models?

I think you should be fine with a 5' rotary cutter. We use a 6' on our L3830HST, that has about 31PTO HP. We used a 5' cutter on an L245DT that had around 22PTO HP, I think, and it did fine.

You'll have no problem. I have a B3200 and run a rear finishing mower that is 72" cutting about 2 acres. Runs it will our missing a beat.

I did not know that Kubota's B series tractors could handle a 5' rotary mower. That is interesting, for it opens up a lot more options for me. I currently have a L3130 with La723 loader that I only use about 40 hours a year to bush hog 10 acres I own and do a little bit of loader work around the barn. I'm thinking about selling the L3130 to go towards a skid steer upgrade from my current model and then purchasing a smaller tractor to take care of my bush hogging.

Regarding your original question, the L3010 on ebay is the same general size and HP as the L3130 you already own, only one generation older. If you want to downsize, you'd need to look at something in the B series, which are quite a bit smaller, but should handle a 5ft cutter OK, as the other posts indicate.

Kinda curious, though, what you would figure to be doing with a skid steer if you're only using the L3130 40 hrs a year.

Thanks Grandad4 for giving info on size. I'm not really looking for something smaller just less expensive. Now to answer your curiosity about my skid steer use, I use my current 773G Bobcat very frequently for my construction business which I would like to upgrade to a S250. So I hope to sell the L3130 and 773 and buy a more expensive Bigger Bobcat and buy a cheaper tractor which I rarely use. Just a rearrange of assets to meet priorities.

Gotcha. That makes sense. If you are mostly doing some occasional bush hogging, you might also consider going to something like an old Ford or Fergie that is in decent shape. If you don't mind putting in some TLC (i.e. maintenance and repair) to keep it running, it would be way cheaper than one of the newer models. Not as many creature comforts, but there are plenty of them around. I love my orange tractors, but if the circumstances were different, those golden oldies still make great chore tractors.
