Kubota L3130
Hello all. I recently bought a used 3120 with a FEL, 7' disk and 6' box blade. (the seller threw in the implements with the tractor since he would no longer need them). I am replacing a 69 MF 135 diesel which was a good tractor but not nearly as nimble (or safe) as the 3120. We have 40 acres which is about 2/3 timber and the rest open. We need to able to mow the fields and brush but will also plant clover and grain strips for bird and wildlife habitat and for training our bird dogs. I have conflicting advice on the size of the brush cutter: 5' or 6'? Also, which plow: one or two bottom? I want to use the tractor to its capacity, but I do not want to overwork it and cause premature wear. Any thoughts and advice are appreciated.

I would say if you have ag tires you could pull a 2 plow with 2wheel drive, 4wheel drive and r4's should be no prob as well.

I have a 4630 and i would say with the loader on and a 6' brush hog it should not be a issue either, without the fel you may be using the brush hog as a wheelie bar.

I have a 3130 also. You should have no problem with a 5 or 6 ft bush hog. In most cases you can pull a 2-bottom plow, but for tough conditions a 1 bottom may be better. Silverking is right about needing front-end weight with a bush hog. I have a 5 footer and a FEL, but when I go over a bump you know you are carrying something on the 3-pt.

This is funny ,I just bought a l330 to replace a tired mf135 and I'm doing some of the same tasks. my tired mf135 had no problem pulling a 2 bottom plow even in clay and roots your 3120 should have about the same amount of power as the m135 and weigh about the same the m135 would have better tires on the rear for pulling but with 4wd the 3120 should do even better. You may find that you need to load the rear tires when pulling a double plow. You said you like the 3130 becouse it is nimble and that you have timber in the area I would think a 5' hog would be better for those reasons but you could use a 6' but it might not be any faster if your cutting heavey stuff and have to slow down.
