Having trouble determining what rpm,s to run at when using my FEL, when driving down the local county road to my woodlot or when using the box blade. Have been running at 2000 to 2200 rpms and it seems to operate ok, but would feel better with some advice. Have been going through the archives and reading the operator's manual, but still don't know for sure. Diesel engines are new to me, sure like this one.

My B2400 feels comfortable operating at approx. 1900rpm's when doing FEL work. Plenty of hydraulic power and less fuel consumption than running at higher speeds.

For the work I am doing I am able to operate at about 1800 rpm. It is quiet enough that I don't need hearing protection and the hydraulic pressure is about 2350 psi. I am not going for full loads in the bucket nor doing dirt work now for the most part. When I do need more capability I will go to the PTO rated rpm and use hearing protection. I operated in medium range primarily and rarely use high range.

You don't have to worry about overreving that engine. It has a governor that will prevent that, and tractors are made to run at "high" RPM all day. For me personally, with any PTO powered implement (on my little tractors that was tiller, brush hog, and finish mower, while on a neighbor's bigger tractor it was haybine and baler) I ran at the rated PTO speed all the time. Going down the county roads? Wide open, as fast as they would go. For most other things (FEL, box blade, cultivator plow), I ran it about 2,000 RPM, plus or minus 200.

Thanks all. I feel better about the situation now - at least I wont "Blow-up" my engine at 2000-2200 rpms.

Howdy.
I have a L3130, too. I wondered the same thing....good question.

From my limited experience, (138 hrs tach time), I like 2200-2300 rpm when I use the FEL. I have the smaller loader and a 66" HD bucket.

For bush hogging I run her up to rated PTO speed (540 on the Intellipanel).

I think a fella could run her wide open all day with no problem. I would be a little more concerned about lugging the engine at lower rpms and high gear.

just my 2c worth.
