L3400 HST brake light switch & other misc.

Just replaced both tail light lens and in checking things found brake lights not working. Easy - check brake light switch. Except I can't find it. even looked at brake peddle and brake parts pic's and parts lists - no see em? I am sure I will be embarassed when I find out where it is.

Also:
R/R hydro intake hose - that fixed jerking steering and weak FEL lifting
R/R PTO cable, then PTO lever not returning - lubed and ok for now
Replaced missing zerk on FEL
R/R air filter
Washed and cleaned (first time in 500 hours) looks great
Next up R/R oil gauge for transmission and then oil change with new filter

And THEN I will be ready to move 100 plus yards of dirt removed for the pond.

Try turning on the headlights and see if they come on. Not sure about your tractor, but on my L3540 the brake lights are marker lights only when the headlights are turned on and do not work as brake lights.

I don't think they have Brake Lights... they are only Hazard Lights.

You make me feel SO good! Can't find something that isn't there. BUT no brake lights? Is that typical for tractors?

No brake lights my friend, I think larger tractors, liable to be driven on the road's do, but No CUT I have owned had brake lights. I cannot speak to others.

Gentlemen, this will blow your mind. Kubota's L series DOES have provisions for working brake lights(at least the Grand L does). However the switch is not available on the parts lookup for US dealers.
Under the dash follow the brake pedal up to the top, there is a small bracket with a hole in it for the switch to mount in. There is also a 2 wire pigtail with a molded connector there. Jump the connector and the brake lights come on. The bulbs behind the red lenses are 2 filament bulbs (1157 type). Now as with some of Kubota's parts, it is probably the same switch used elsewhere on the tractor such as clutch safety,etc. but I haven't tried that yet.
I have jumped the connector and they do work.

Gotta wonder if that is there to meet spec's in other country's. It would make sense to produce them with the same harness, and bracket but not the switch to save a few pennies over here, but easily fitted if need be in some regions.

Thats interesting IDIGDIRT, I will have to look for that on my tractor. Might be a good rainy day project to get a switch from an auto store and toss it in.
