I've had my 2005 since new and never really noticed that the HST pedal has play in it. I noticed the pedal is loose on the HST control arm bracket, but It does not tighten up. It may have been this way since new. So, are your pedals loose or tight to the HST control arm?

Well I don't own one now, but when I had a L3400HST. I don't remember any play whatsoever. in the pedal.

I have an L3940 and I did tighten the cables up just a bit once after it had about a hundred hours on it. Are you referring to the pivot point having play or the cables for forward and reverse?

I have attached a picture of the two bolts that hold the pedal to the HST control arm. It is this junction that has play. The left bolt is tight and the right one appears to be stripped since it won't tighten. I just happen to notice this play today.

Anyone???

From what I remember the connections were tight. I think you have found the problem and and answered your own question.. the bolt is stripped out. retap and replace with a larger bolt. or if there is clearance on the back side. drill thru for larger bolt with nut and lockwasher on back side... there should not be any stripped out fastener, a repair is now in order.

After I posted this I went out to work on it. One bolt was stripped and the other was very tight but the pedal was not tight. I got both bolts out and they were both boogered. I drilled out as you mentioned and replaced with bolts, nuts, lock washers and locktite.

When the right hand bolt would not tighten but the pedal was loose I thought maybe they had designed a bit of play in it for some reason. It almost appears that the nuts welded to the pedal had differnt pich threads and they just forced them in. Either that or they became loose and caused this. I don't quite see how the welded on nuts got stripped in that case though.

Oh well, it's fixed. Thanks James
