I reallllly like my new L3400! So far we have a grand total of 15 hours on the beast. The ONLY fault that I have found so far is the lack of a tool box for storing a couple of wrenches, pins, etc.

Have any of you L2800/3400 owners come up with a solution to this conundrum?

I have no need in it if I don't trailer mine anywhere but mounting something on the FEL is possible and there is always the fender but that may not look all that great.
The best place would be behind the seat you may want to take some measurements with the BH on and the tractor seat all the way back.

Everybody needs a couple adjustable wrenches and a pair of pliers on the tractor. I have looked all over and I cannot find a place where you could put a tool box anyway without it being in the way. I finally strapped a leather tool pouch like carpenters wear to the loader frame near the instrument panel . The pouch has three compartments and comes with a belt. I can keep a few tools and other stuff in it. Doesn't look so professional but It doesn't scratch up anytghing and I can take it off anytime I decide to. Wal Mart has a solution for anything.

Not sure of your tractor set-up , but this is what I used to rest on the sub-frame for the FEL..Ammo box ( of course repainted Bota orange )_..bought low-profile cup magnets from "MSC Tools".(3" diam..60lbs.pull) They have a center-hole to fit a 1/4-20 bolt..used 4 magnets..each corner....mounted to bottom, nyla-nut on inside on box...spray adhesive on magnets and covered with felt...let sit 24 hrs...use propane torch lightly across felt to shrink-it down...adds more magnetic power...I suppose the mags could be mounted to the side of the box..or mount the ammo box permanent, but I chose to have it removeable..lot of variations. There are 2 sizes of ammo boxes with 6" & 10" height. I went with 10"...

Been eyeing the narrow space behind the seat lately...only need pliers and a cresent...sure feel lost without 'em.

The BX23's seat has a grouping of six threaded inserts on the back that are covered w/little plastic plugs. I'm told they are for adding the optional armrests. I used two of them to mount an 11"x4"x4" metal tool box and it's done pretty well for me.
I don't know if the L3400 series has these optional armrest mounting tabs but if it does then one might mount a toolbox to it like I did.
Theres a thread about it and some other ideas somewhere around this forum.
Good luck as a tool box of some sort is a definite need on a tractor /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I removed one base bolt from each ROPS base, designed a bracked that lined up with the two bolt holes, drilled the bracket and then reinserted the ROPS bolts to hold the bracket in place. I then used a large Pick-Up truck box as a tool box and bolted it to the bracket I had installed. I've seen similar units on other brands.

Toolbox mounted behind my seat.

The toolbox is big enough to carry tools, a hatchet, 2 different limb pruners, first aid kit, a tow strap, bug spray, and still have space left over for gloves, etc.

very nice, Bob. Nicer than what I had in mind, but in the exact location I was hoping to make something work. Do you find it to be a little deep? (bolts and pins getting lost in the abyss??) Shawn

Too deep??? Not for me. But I do have it somewhat organized.

There are 2 small tool bags in the box. One is black, it holds a couple large screw drivers, a couple cresent wrenches and an 8 piece wrench set. The other bag is grey, it holds all sorts of little things like spare clips, pins, top link pins, parts for the Pat's Easy Change, first aid kit, etc. The bigger stuff is pretty much visible. There is a small hand hatchet in there, probaby about 12" long. 1 anvil pruner, 16" long. 1 bypass pruner, 18" long. A 20' tow strap with metal hooks. A small pruning saw. There is plenty of space for other tools when I have a specific project to work on.

Now in all honesty I would have preferred a box a couple inches shorter, and a couple inches wider, but I couldn't find one that was perfect so I settled for second best. But I am VERY happy with the function of it and how it works for me.

What I also found was that large tool boxes that had enough volume were too wide to fit in that area. As each tractor model is different, I'm considering a different size tool box on my other tractor . . . just haven't found the right one yet.

On the fender of my L2800 I mounted an ammo box I bought at the Army surplus store. Painted it orange (of course!), and bolted it to the right side fender. It is watertight, and is large enough for several wrenches, pliers, and other tools (WD-40) with room to spare. Two bolts hold it on the fender. Took me about 20 minutes to get it on. Ammo box cost about $5, and a can of Chevrolet engine orange $3.
